The mother of a seven-year-old boy with Autism said he was treated like a criminal after being handcuffed following an outburst in class.

Shocking mobile phone footage shows the youngster crying as he was led from Hirsch Elementary School in San Antonio, Texas, by school district police.

His mum, Maria Herrera Arias, told Fox San Antonio: Theyre treating him like a criminal and hes not.

She explained that her son had a meltdown during a disagreement over a computer programme during a lesson on Monday.

Maybe something thats not a big deal to everyone else, is a big deal to him. He doesnt understand how to calm himself down from that, she added.

The cellphone video was taken by the boy?s dad moment later, after he eventually received the message and went to the school.
