Maddison, 22, has impressed since joining Leicester from Norwich last season and has two assists to his name already in the first five games of the new Premier League campaign.

Solskjaer – who is trying to build an English core at Old Trafford – is thought to have identified Maddison as his top target.

Leicester, who sold Harry Maguire to the Red Devils this summer, will be reluctant to lose another high quality player to their Premier League rivals, but Rodgers admitted its tough to stop players moving to super clubs of the ilk of United and Liverpool.
