Haringey (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Police have named 19-year-old Marcus Fakana as the victim of Friday’s fatal collision in Tottenham, Haringey.

On Friday morning, at approximately 12.52 a.m., police officers made an effort to stop an automobile. They lost sight of the car after a brief pursuit of around 60 seconds, but they quickly found that it had been in a collision with a truck.

The automobile had Marcus as a passenger. After being brought to the hospital, he passed away.

Following the crash, the driver, who was a 19-year-old man, was taken into custody. Since then, Marwaan Mohamed Huseen, 19, of Argyle Road, Haringey, has been charged with driving recklessly, failing to stop, driving without insurance, and driving without a license.

Marcus was released three months ago after a family battle, but his incarceration in Dubai last year made headlines across the country.

Both the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) and the Met’s Directorate of Professional Standards were notified of the event.

What was Marcus Fakana’s history in Dubai and the royal pardon?

In December 2024, a British teen named Marcus Fakana was sentenced to prison in Dubai for entering into a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old British girl while visiting the UAE with his family. At the time of the relationship, Marcus was 18 years old. Under UK law, the relationship was legal and completely consensual, but the age of consent in Dubai and the UAE is 18.

The girl’s mother contacted the authorities in the UAE after discovering messages and pictures exchanged between the two teenagers upon their return to the UK.

In June 2025, Marcus Fakana was freed early from his sentence after receiving a royal pardon from the ruler of Dubai, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, which allowed his return home.
