Greenwich (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Police in Greenwich have arrested a 33-year-old man on suspicion of murder following the death of a 29-year-old woman. Investigations remain ongoing.

At 10:20 p.m. on Wednesday, August 27, police received a report of a stabbing at a residence on Trafalgar Road, SE10.

The woman tragically passed away from her wounds at the site despite the best efforts of emergency personnel, including London’s Air Ambulance and paramedics from the London Ambulance Service.

Formal identification is awaited by Greenwich Police. There has been a post-mortem examination.

At the site, a 33-year-old guy who was allegedly acquainted with her was taken into custody on suspicion of murder. Due to potentially fatal injuries, he is still in the hospital.

Detective Inspector Mark Franklin, who is leading the investigation, said:

“Our thoughts are with the victim’s family, who at this unimaginably difficult time, are being supported by specialist officers.

We know this incident will cause great concern within the community. While we are confident this is an isolated incident, residents will see an increased police presence in the area. If you are concerned please speak to one of those officers on patrol.”

The investigation continues.

What forensic steps have investigators taken after the post-mortem?

A forensic pathologist performs a detailed autopsy to establish cause and mechanism of death, examine injuries, and collect evidence. This includes photographic documentation and extensive notes.

Samples are taken from various body parts, including hair, nails, mouth, and any wounds for DNA analysis, toxicology, and identifying the assailant or weapon used. Clothing is examined for bloodstains, foreign materials like dirt, glass, or paint, and any damage pattern consistent with the cause of death.

Coroner’s officers and forensic teams document the scene, take photographs, and may accompany the body to maintain the chain of custody.
