Boris Johnson says UK can be ‘best friend’ to EU as top officials formally sign trade deal

Boris Johnson has said his Brexit deal means the UK will be “the best friend and ally the EU could have”.

Parliament will be recalled to give its ruling on the trade agreement on Wednesday, more than four years after the matter was put to the public in 2016.

The EU (Future Relationship) Bill is expected to clear the Commons with support of the Conservatives and the majority of Labour MPs, although it has faces opposition by the SNP, the DUP, Plaid Cymru, the SDLP, Alliance and the Liberal Democrats.
