Details about the London Marathon 2022

About the Participants

English soccer superstars Leah Williamson, Ellen White, and Jill Scott, who won the 2001 Mini Marathon, will serve as the event’s official starters.

Earlier in the week, four-time Olympic champion Mo Farah withdrew from this year’s top men’s race owing to a hip ailment. Similarly, women’s world record holder Brigid Kosgei, who has won twice in London, also had to withdraw due to injury.

Olympic champion and men’s marathon world record holder Eliud Kipchoge will not compete. Still, they will be in London on Saturday to award medals to the champions of the Mini Marathon.

Player’s Highlight

Men’s favourites include Sisay Lemma and Kenenisa Bekele, both from Ethiopia. In contrast, women’s favourites include last year’s victor Joyciline Jepkosgei of Kenya and Ethiopia’s Yalemzerf Yehualaw, who posted the fastest debut time for a marathon.

In the elite women’s race, Charlotte Purdue represents the United Kingdom, while Phil Sesemann, who finished eighth in the elite men’s race last year, will try to do better this time.

In 2021, the London Marathon elite events were won by Sisay Lemma and Joyciline Jepkosgei. In 2021, the elite men’s and women’s London Marathon events were won by Sisay Lemma and Joyciline Jepkosgei, respectively.

Defending men’s and women’s wheelchair race champions Marcel Hug and Manuela Schar of Switzerland are joined by Paralympic marathon champion Madison de Rozario of Australia and eight-time London Marathon champion David Weir of Great Britain in pursuit of the largest wheelchair racing purse in history.

London Marathon 2022 Prize

This year’s prize money for the men’s and women’s races has been increased from $25,000 to $35,000 (£22,542 to £31,559). To have the London Marathon take a position and raise prize money for wheelchair competitors is incredibly strong and sets a bar for all sports internationally,” said Weir, who is participating in the London Marathon for the 23rd time. Other well-known people may also appear, such as BBC newscaster Sophie Raworth, McFly drummer Harry Judd, radio DJs Chris Stark and Reece Parkinson, and TV personality Mark Wright.

Children’s Mini Marathon

The Mini Marathon was held on Saturday, the day before the London Marathon, for the first time as a separate event. The London Marathon was held on Sunday. There were around 7,000 youngsters who participated in the one-mile and 2.6-kilometre run, and the organizers have high hopes that by the year 2030, this race will be just as large as the main event.

The current holder of the world record, Eliud Kipchoge, encouraged the competitors and presented medals to the top finishers.

Conclusion

The London Marathon 2022 is considered the year’s marathon in London. More than 40,000 runners were supposed to partake in different running games. London Marathon organisers never use hand-picked lineups to favour local runners. Instead, world-class fields have been built in every category, making London’s triumph as significant as a major championships gold. The people are looking for to this event, more so because of runners like Bashir Abdi, Eliud kipchoge, mo Farah, champion Sissay lemma, marathon winner Joyciline Jepkosgei from Kenya, and many more
