Lambeth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Every child in the Lambeth borough has been offered a secondary school place, with 92% securing a spot at one of their preferred schools.

According to recent data, every child in Lambeth who submitted their application on time has been offered a spot in secondary school for the eleventh consecutive year.

Lambeth Council said that 1,426 of the 2,225 candidates who received offers this year received their first preference on the day that parents and guardians throughout London are informed which secondary school their children have been granted spots at.

This indicated that 64% of Lambeth youngsters had been given the opportunity to attend the secondary school of their choice.

Students with an Education, Health, and Care Plan are not included in the total numbers since they apply through a different procedure.

Parents and carers can select schools in Lambeth and other boroughs due to the coordinated school admissions process.

Given the abundance of local schools, it is regrettably inevitable that not every kid will be able to attend the school of their choice.

However, Lambeth still has enough year 7 spots available for people to select from, and it can offer the majority of parents and carers a school of their choice.

Cllr Ben Kind, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, said:

“Schools across Lambeth have worked incredibly hard to ensure every child has access to a good school place, despite the financial pressures they face.

Fourteen years of central government cuts have left schools struggling with an unfair funding formula that does not reflect the needs of inner-city areas like ours.”

He added that the falling birth rates and rising costs add further challenges, but our schools continue to provide high-quality education and ensure every family has a place for their child in secondary school.

This success is down to the dedication of our brilliant teachers, school staff, and education leaders, who go above and beyond every day to support young people.

Because of the hard work of our schools and education service, families no longer face the uncertainty of previous years, when some worried about whether their child would get an offer at all.

Gone are the days when a family felt anxious about where their children might go to school and when a child’s future depended on whether they got an offer. Every child in Lambeth has the opportunity to thrive in school.

He also added:

“We are also continuing to strengthen support for children with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND), ensuring they get the right help as early as possible.

From investment in SEND places to expanding our early intervention support, we are committed to making sure every child, whatever their needs, can succeed in mainstream education where possible and access specialist provision when necessary.

As we welcome this new cohort of students in September, we remain committed to fighting for fairer school funding, championing Lambeth’s schools, and making sure every child in our borough has the best possible start to their secondary education.”

By efficiently overseeing the school admissions procedure and making sure there were enough spots available for every candidate, Lambeth was able to achieve a 100% offer rate for secondary school spots.

In all of London, 94.8% of kids have received an offer to attend one of their top schools.

According to data provided today by the Pan London Admissions Board, which is ultimately in charge of coordinating admissions to schools in the capital, 71.6% of pupils who applied to London schools were accepted into their first choice school, which represents a 1.1% rise over the previous year.

In all, 90.5% of London students received an offer to attend one of their top three secondary school preferences.

How did Lambeth council achieve a 100% offer rate of secondary school places?

Parents can select schools in Lambeth and other boroughs by participating in the coordinated school admissions process. This technique guarantees that every child receives an offer and aids in managing demand.

In order to handle excess student spots brought on by declining birth rates and other causes, the council collaborates closely with other schools. This partnership guarantees sufficient capacity to satisfy demand while also assisting in upholding high standards.

Lambeth Council has made calculated choices to efficiently distribute resources in spite of financial constraints. To prevent shortages, this entails planning for future student enrollment and overseeing school budgets.

Lambeth Council is able to efficiently customize its education programs by interacting with the local community and learning about its needs. Through this involvement, schools are prepared to satisfy the needs of nearby families.
