What did Keir Starmer’s leadership in Ukraine earn him in polls?

The Prime Minister, Keir Starmer’s visit to Washington DC earned him praise for his diplomatic handling of Mr. Trump. He then hosted Volodymyr Zelensky at Number 10 after the Ukrainian president’s exit from the White House following a heated discussion with Trump and JD Vance.

The Labour leader then organised a summit with European leaders and Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau at Lancaster House on Sunday, receiving widespread praise for his effective leadership during the intensifying crisis linked to Mr Trump’s views on Ukraine.

During Wednesday’s PMQs, Keir Starmer sharply criticized JD Vance, paying tribute to British soldiers who lost their lives in the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts.

Keir Starmer’s stance on UK armed forces

At the start of PMQs, Sir Keir Starmer stated,

“Tomorrow marks 13 years since six young British soldiers were on patrol in Afghanistan and their vehicle was hit by an explosive, tragically killing them all.”

The prime minister said,

“These men fought and died for their country, our country. And across the wars in Afghanistan and Iraq, 642 individuals died fighting for Britain, alongside our allies. Many more were wounded,”

adding,

“We will never forget their bravery and their sacrifice, and I know the whole House will join with me in remembering them and all those who serve our country.”

He highlighted that tomorrow marks the 18th anniversary of the tragic death of a 22-year-old Royal Marines soldier in Afghanistan.

What did the survey reveal about Keir Starmer and Scottish Labour leader?

Recent survey has revealed that UK Labour leader Keir Starmer holds more sway over Scottish voters’ decisions than Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar. The poll, conducted by Opinion Matters for the BIG Partnership, points to a challenge for Labour’s Holyrood campaign as it grapples with the influence of Westminster politics.

Allan Barr, chief executive officer, BIG Partnership, stated,

“These figures present something of a dilemma for Scottish Labour. If the party can show a Labour government in Westminster is a positive game-changer for Scotland then that will be helpful. However, it may also have to carve out its own distinct and compelling vision, especially if Labour nationally continues to struggle in the polls.”
