Hammersmith & Fulham (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The Green Meet returns to Hammersmith and Fulham on Sunday 11 May, celebrating nature, biodiversity and community through interactive, family-friendly events.

This spring, historic Fulham Palace will host a green-focused fiesta with a focus on wildlife, nature, and wellbeing.

On Sunday, May 11, the yearly Green Meet will make a triumphant return to Fulham Palace, offering a flurry of family-friendly workshops, games, and activities.

A series of expert-led seminars will highlight birds, bees, and minibeasts, and workshops on biodiversity and sustainable gardening will provide a wealth of practical advice.

The action-packed event will take place at the 13-acre location on Bishop’s Avenue from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., and will include live music, garden activities, and a green market to enhance the excitement.

Organiser Raphaela Ashford said:

“The Green Meet is all about bringing people together to enjoy nature, gardening and sustainable living.”

A minibeast search for children ages three to twelve and a chicken chat centered on learning about the life of Fulham Palace’s resident flock of feathery companions are among the events scheduled throughout the day.

If you’re interested in apiaries, take a guided safari with Dr. Tony Madgwick, a specialist in bees and wasps, to learn more about the fascinating world of pollinators.

Tony will be sharing his enthusiasm for encouraging the study, recording, and appreciation of the capital’s wild bee and wasp populations as the London Natural History Society’s Recorder for Bees and Wasps.

Tourists can unwind and explore a green market that has regional vendors selling eco-friendly and garden-themed goods.

Freshly chosen seasonal flowers, handcrafted jams and chutneys, and organically grown produce grown inside the ancient walled garden will all be available for purchase from Fulham Palace’s own garden barrow.

“As London’s second-oldest botanic garden, Fulham Palace has a long tradition of growing and inspiring others to do the same,”

explained Raphaela.

“As an independent charity, events like this help support the Palace and keep it open and free for everyone to enjoy. It is a great way to explore the gardens, pick up eco-friendly ideas and connect with the community.”

One of the pre-scheduled, ticketed events is a sample session by Lucy Hart, the head gardener of Fulham Palace, which will give attendees an inside look at one of London’s oldest botanic gardens.

While three of Fulham Palace’s gardeners will discuss how they cultivate flowers and produce in the centuries-old walled garden, an exclusive walk of the dry moat around the ancient building will explore its intriguing biodiversity.

RSPB volunteers run two basic birdwatching sessions (pre-book for £2) for all ages, where birdwatchers may learn how to find and identify some of the more than 30 species that visit the garden.

In the peaceful setting of the walled garden, there’s an opportunity to learn the soothing craft of tea brewing while cultivating a closer bond with nature through a wild tea-making and wellness session (pre-book for £10).

Participation from the community is encouraged, which promotes solidarity and a sense of shared accountability for environmental problems.

Local companies and organizations sponsor the Green Meet, underscoring the value of neighborhood-based projects in advancing sustainability.

All things considered, the Green Meet at Fulham Palace is a lively event that encourages a greener way of living by fusing entertainment, education, and community involvement.

The sewing bee volunteers’ latest product, a gorgeously stitched environment created for Fulham Palace’s new school ecology classes, will be on display for the creative families to admire.

While smaller children can experiment with basic stitches using hessian and ribbon as part of the artistic activity, visitors can try their hand at embroidery by stitching a flower.

Delicious snacks from a range of food booths and the drawing room café at Fulham Palace will be served throughout the day, along with live music to keep the positive vibes flowing.

Locals can visit the Fulham Palace Green Meet website to learn more and purchase tickets, which cost £5 for adults and £3 for children.

What are the activities and features planned at the Green meet at the Fulham Palace?

Workshops and presentations by specialists in biodiversity and sustainability are part of the program. Topics like vegan leather, biochar technology, and restorative interventions have been discussed by previous speakers.

Upcycled goods, locally made crafts, and environmentally friendly products will be available at a number of booths. Handmade wood objects and freshly picked flowers will be on display in the Palace garden cart.

Kids can engage in outdoor games, crafts, and other activities. Additionally, there will be sustainable food options and live music.

Participants of all ages will be able to take an interactive quiz about climate change based on IPCC facts.

The Palace and its grounds will benefit from the earnings of a tombola that will be held.
