UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – UK PM Keir Starmer supports US President Donald Trump’s strikes on Iran’s nuclear sites, calling them a justified move to prevent Tehran from obtaining nukes.

As reported by The Independent, Keir Starmer has endorsed Donald Trump’s sudden airstrikes on Iran.

Keir Starmer’s views on the US strikes on Iran

The prime minister, Keir Starmer, stated,

“Iran’s nuclear programme is a grave threat to international security. Iran can never be allowed to develop a nuclear weapon, and the US has taken action to alleviate that threat.”

He said,

“The situation in the Middle East remains volatile and stability in the region is a priority. We call on Iran to return to the negotiating table and reach a diplomatic solution to end this crisis.”

Sir Keir is due to attend a major NATO summit in The Hague in 48 hours, alongside world leaders and representatives of the Trump administration.

Number 10 said the prime minister will hold talks with key allies today to further discuss the Iran crisis.

What did Jonathan Reynolds say about US strikes on Iran?

UK business secretary Jonathan Reynolds said Britain was informed in advance about the US airstrikes on Iran. He confirmed that the UK is engaged in urgent negotiations to help citizens leave Iran and nearby areas.

Mr Reynolds added,

“That will be hours, not days. We have been making extensive preparations.”

According to him, British nationals in the region remain the government’s top focus.

What did Grant Shapps say about the US strikes on Iran?

Grant Shapps, the ex-Conservative defence secretary, expressed support for the US strikes, signalling cross-party consensus in Britain.

He posted on X,

“I don’t often agree with Trump, but destroying Iran’s nuclear sites was absolutely the right call. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps wants Israel wiped off the map. Tehran arms Hamas, Hezbollah, Houthis & militias. Iran fuels Middle East chaos. Starmer’s calls for ‘restraint’ were dangerously naive.”

What did Nigel Farage say about the US strikes on Iran?

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage also supported the American strikes, aligning with the US position on Iran.

He added,

“Reform UK stands behind the military actions of the USA overnight. Iran must not be allowed to have nuclear weapons; the future of Israel depends on it.”

Iran’s Foreign Ministry’s stance on the US strikes

Tehran’s foreign ministry condemned the US for its “brutal military aggression” targeting Iran’s civilian nuclear infrastructure.

The statement added,

“The Islamic Republic of Iran is resolved to defend Iran’s territory, sovereignty, security and people by all force and means against the United States’ criminal aggression.”

Which nuclear sites in Iran were targeted by the US?

The US strike followed a military build-up involving advanced equipment. Experts say B-2 bombers, capable of carrying 30,000-pound bunker-buster bombs, were used to hit nuclear sites.

Diego Garcia, a joint UK-US airbase in the Chagos Islands, has hosted B-2 missions before. The recent strikes targeted sites are Fordo, Isfahan, and Natanz.

What did Donald Trump say about the US strikes on Iran?

Donald Trump confirmed US airstrikes on Iranian nuclear sites, joining Israel’s efforts to curb Tehran’s nuclear plans.

He stated in a speech,

“Our objective was the destruction of Iran’s nuclear enrichment capacity and a stop to the nuclear threat posed by the world’s number one state sponsor of terror. Tonight, I can report to the world that the strikes were a spectacular military success. Iran’s key nuclear enrichment facilities have been completely and totally obliterated.”

Mr Trump added,

“There will be either peace or there will be tragedy for Iran far greater than we have witnessed over the last eight days. Remember, there are many targets left. Tonight’s was the most difficult of them all by far, and perhaps the most lethal. But if peace does not come quickly, we will go after those other targets with precision, speed and skill.”
