Lambeth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Lambeth Council joins UK-wide celebrations for Love Parks Week 2025, highlighting the vital role of parks and green spaces from 25 July to 3 August.

The yearly event also serves as a chance to express gratitude to the locals, volunteers, and Friends of Parks organizations that support their continued success.

With over 70 public parks and green areas, Lambeth is pleased to have a variety of beloved open spaces that promote vibrant communities, abundant wildlife, and everyone’s health and well-being.

Lambeth’s parks, which range from award-winning history parks to peaceful gardens and woodlands, are more than just green areas; they are essential lifelines for public health, urban wildlife, and community connectedness.

Cllr Donatus Anyanwu, Lambeth’s Cabinet Member for Stronger Communities, Leisure and Sport, said:

“Our parks are the beating heart of our communities. They bring people together, support our mental and physical wellbeing, and provide essential habitats for wildlife. Love Parks Week is a celebration of everything our green spaces represent; community, biodiversity, and the joy of being outdoors.

We’re also incredibly proud of our award-winning parks and the residents, volunteers, and staff who make them so special.”

By supporting accessible access, sustainable drainage, biodiversity, and improved play and sports facilities, we are investing in parks and open spaces under the council’s Parks Capital Investment Plan as part of our commitment to making Lambeth a cleaner, greener borough.

Lambeth continues to set the standard for establishing inclusive, secure, and sustainable public areas for everyone with its 26 Green Flag Award-winning parks and green areas, which include the recently acknowledged Agnes Riley Gardens.

It also demonstrates the borough’s dedication to providing excellent park maintenance and community engagement. The awards, which are given out by Keep Britain Tidy, honor parks that adhere to the strictest guidelines for accessibility, safety, and environmental quality.

The parks in Lambeth are essential for fostering wellbeing and good health. Research indicates that having access to green space can boost mood, lower stress levels, and promote physical activity. These areas are vital for building resilient, inclusive communities in a borough as varied and vibrant as Lambeth.

Residents are encouraged to visit their local parks, participate in local Friends of Parks groups, and post their favorite green moments on social media with the hashtags #LoveParksWeek and #WildLambeth during Love Parks Week.

What measures does Lambeth Council take to ensure accessibility and inclusion in Love Parks Week activities?

Lambeth’s parks and open spaces strategic plan prioritizes safety, welcoming environments, and accessibility for everyone, including those with disabilities or mobility challenges. The council reviews and improves pedestrian routes, crossing points, and infrastructure such as dropped kerbs to facilitate easier access.

Activities and programs, such as community gardening clubs in parks like Archbishop’s Park, actively encourage participation from diverse groups, including people with mental health difficulties, barriers to employment, loneliness, and isolation. These programs are designed to be inclusive and supportive, offering trained guidance to participants of all backgrounds and abilities.

Lambeth Borough has a comprehensive equity, diversity, and inclusion framework embedded in the governance of public services and community programs.
