How could voter turnout affect the election outcome in Cranford ward?

Higher or lower turnout tends to favor different groups of voters. For example, if more supporters of one candidate or party are motivated to vote, that side’s chances improve. Close elections often see a surge in turnout primarily from the candidate or party that was trailing, potentially flipping tight races.

Research shows that supporters of the trailing side in a close race may turnout disproportionately more, tipping the balance.

This means if turnout increases and it is driven by voters favoring one candidate, it could sway the result particularly in a closely contested ward.
