Barnet (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The Royal Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RSPCA) has launched an appeal after a bulldog was found dead in a suitcase on a Barnet bridleway.

On August 9, a member of the public made the discovery on Arkley Lane in Barnet and informed the RSPCA.

Animal Rescue Officer Georgina Parsons, who is investigating, said:

“This is an extremely distressing discovery on a public right of way. The dog – a bully type breed – was in an advanced state of decomposition and appeared severely emaciated.

The head was protruding from the suitcase, with visible decomposition around the eyes and muzzle.

The animal had no collar or tags, and a check for a microchip proved unsuccessful. Only two blankets were found alongside the dog inside the case.

We’re asking anyone who saw anything suspicious in the area, or who has any information about this discovery to contact us.”

The appeal follows the discovery of another dog’s body in Harrow a few days prior.

Call the RSPCA inspectorate appeal line at 0300 123 8018 and provide reference number 1600887 if you have any information.

Additionally, the charity has called on people to donate to its Summer Cruelty Appeal.

How does this Barnet case compare to the recent Harrow dead-dog discovery?

Both involve the discovery of dead dogs found inside suitcases in public places within London boroughs. The dogs were found in advanced states of decomposition, indicating they had been dead for some time before discovery.

In both cases, the RSPCA has launched appeals for information to identify those responsible for the suspected act of animal cruelty. The Barnet case involved a dog found on a bridleway (Arkley Lane), while the Harrow case was discovered in another location within the London borough of Harrow.

In the Barnet case, there were two blankets found alongside the dog inside the suitcase, which was not reported in the Harrow case.
