Ealing (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Ealing Hospital NHS Trust has been ranked 23rd in the government’s first-ever league tables, assessing performance across NHS trusts in England.

As part of a government initiative to “raise standards and ensure better value for patients and taxpayers,” the London North West University Healthcare (LNWH) Trust has been listed among the nation’s top-performing trusts in the first national NHS league tables, which were released this week.

The trust, which manages Northwick Park, Central Middlesex Hospital, and Ealing Hospital, had a category two rating and was placed 23rd out of 134 acute trusts in England. It is one of only three organizations to reach this level without having a foundation or specialized status.

Moorfields Eye Hospital NHS Foundation Trust stood at the top of the list, followed by Royal National Orthopaedic Hospital NHS Trust.

Pippa Nightingale, chief executive of LNWH, told EALING.NEWS:

“We’re pleased to have achieved a category rating of two in the first rankings released under the new national oversight framework – one of only three trusts across the country without foundation or specialist status to have done so.

It shows how hard our staff have been working to improve patients’ safety and experience and safety, as well as their commitment to delivering our savings plans.

As always, we know that there is much more we can do through what is likely to be a challenging winter across the NHS, and we will continue to focus carefully on our performance over the coming months.”

Every trust in England is ranked in the quarterly league tables in categories like mental health, elective surgery, and emergency care.

The top-performing organizations are granted more latitude to reinvest surpluses in frontline services, and organizations are divided into four groups. Senior executives’ compensation will be based on performance, and weaker trusts will be subject to more stringent oversight and focused assistance.

Wes Streeting, the health and social care secretary, said:

“We must be honest about the state of the NHS to fix it. Patients and taxpayers have to know how their local NHS services are doing compared to the rest of the country.

These league tables will identify where urgent support is needed and allow high-performing areas to share best practises with others, taking the best of the NHS to the rest of the NHS.”

By 2026, Integrated Care Boards will be included in the program, which is a component of the government’s 10-year health strategy.

How does Ealing Hospital’s ranking compare to other NHS trusts?

The league tables rank more than 130 NHS trusts in England, with 1 being the highest performing. Ealing is rated 23rd, which puts it comfortably within the upper tier, and significantly above most trusts in the country overall.

There is scope for remarkable improvement for NHS Trusts in the areas of patient care, safety, responsiveness, and operational efficiency.

The ratings of some Trusts are poor for patient satisfaction, cleanliness and safety, areas in which Ealing Hospital has consistently improved throughout the years. Though not at the top of the chains, Ealing’s position is adequate enough to signify acceptable average service quality when compared to poorer performing trusts of the past.
