Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Home Bargains is set to replace Argos at Purley Way Centre in Croydon, marking a major retail change for shoppers in the busy retail hub.
Home Bargains will take over the 14,593 square foot (1,355 square meter) unit in the retail park that was formerly occupied by Argos.
January 2026 is the planned opening date.
Along with well-known food and non-food brands, the store will provide a large selection of frozen and chilled goods at affordable costs.
The facility has been undergoing construction for a number of weeks.
While renovation was underway, one of the Croydon Center’s entrances had to be closed.
As the apartment gets ready for its new resident, shoppers passing by have already noticed improvements.
Home Bargains was established in 1976 in Liverpool and currently has over 600 locations around the United Kingdom.
A Home Bargains spokesperson said:
“We’re excited to announce the opening of our first store at the Purley Way Centre in January 2026.
Our store will offer a wide range of frozen and chilled products, alongside our popular top brands at great prices across both food and non-food ranges.
We look forward to welcoming the local community and helping you find the products you love, at prices you’ll enjoy.”
How can local residents give feedback about the store replacement?
Residents are encouraged to look out for public consultations or reviews of planning applications from Croydon Council which involve the retail centre. It is often possible to submit feedback online via the council’s planning portal or email.
Home Bargains and the Purley Way Centre management may also offer ways to submit feedback via their websites, customer service callworks or in-store comment forms after the store has opened.
When considering feedback, it is also possible to post on social media and/or local community groups linked to Croydon or the Croydon Purley Way Centre to express an opinion and impact decision making.
