Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Several Croydon and Richmond restaurants named finalists in the Food Awards England 2025, competing for top honors in recognition of exceptional culinary talent.

The esteemed awards aim to recognize the outstanding skill, commitment, and enthusiasm demonstrated by eateries, chefs, suppliers, and other food institutions throughout England.

Richmond restaurants Tan Hill Inn and The Burgoyne are vying for the title of Hotel Restaurant of the Year.

McDermott’s Fish & Chips in Croydon has received a nomination for Best Fish N’ Chips Establishment.

Mithras and The Med Kitchen have both been nominated, putting Croydon in the Best Mediterranean Establishment category as well.

One of the finalists for Best Vegetarian/Vegan Establishment is Clapham’s En Root.

The establishments were selected based on public nominations and the Oceanic Awards team’s industry knowledge.

“It’s exciting for us to once again shine a spotlight on the top establishments and businesses that have managed to stand out in such a busy food scene.

How does Tan Hill Inn’s rating compare to The Burgoyne?

Tan Hill Inn has a Tripadvisor rating of around 4.0/5 from more than 2000 reviews. Guests rave about the location as Britain’s highest pub, the welcoming atmosphere, and the friendly staff. Some reviews mention inconsistencies in food or service. All in all, Tan Hill Inn has a good reputation with a lovely location and traditional pub feel, but mixed on dining.

On the other hand, The Burgoyne Hotel in Richmond has an excellent rating on Hotels.com of 8.8/10 (about 4.4 out of 5) from 85 reviews, which generally means diners were more satisfied. It receives praise for high-quality accommodations and hospitality, which typically indicates positive reviews.

So while both are rated highly, Burgoyne Hotel seems to have a slightly higher rating and, by the reviews, better guest feedback on their stay vs Tan Hill Inn. However, the unique location and the historic character of Tan Hill Inn would be its trademark features.
