Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A Croydon family has again transformed their house into a “spooky asylum” for Halloween, drawing social‑media buzz with a chilling, immersive haunted experience.
Alix Ramsier and his kids transform their Caterham Drive house into a Halloween paradise each year.
The concept for 2024 was a terrifying circus, complete with a 12-foot spider that Alix and his children had constructed themselves.
For Halloween, a property on Croydon‘s Caterham Drive has been turned into a terrifying asylum.
The 36-year-old told Your Local Guardian:
“It’s probably bigger than last year.
We’ve gone for a hospital scene this year, which is quite cool.
We’ve made a black blood water fountain.
There’s a guy that looks like he’s having his stomach cut open, and my brother-in-law has made a figure that sits up and lies back down again.”
With the reappearance of the 12-foot spider constructed from guttering poles by Alix and his kids standing in the front garden, the front of the home is teeming with striking installations.
Clowns, nuns, and spooky children’s figurines are also there, along with recycled decorations from past years, to provide guests an immersive experience.
The Ramsiers conduct an interactive charity event called the Halloween Walk, where neighbors begin at their decorated home, hear Alix’s father give a terrifying message, and then follow clues while exploring the surrounding woods.

Medals and candy are given to participants at the conclusion, making it an enjoyable and interesting event for the community.
Alix explained:
“We did it differently this year.
We had a lot of our friends and friends of friends in the woods scaring people a little bit.
We also did a little teddy bears’ picnic in the woods, and it was good fun.”
The event is designed to be interactive, with children testing their bravery.
He added:
“I’m turning my garage into a mental asylum.
I found an old bed frame that almost perfectly covers my garage, and I’ve made some barbed wire to go around the outside.
The kids have got to put their hand through the bar to get their treat, and it tests to see how brave they are.”
The Ramsiers use Halloween to collect money for charity in addition to having fun.
They earned over £3,000 for the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity last year.
Although admission to the Halloween Walk is free, Alix stated that there are “small items the children can purchase that appear to be very well-liked.”
