Waltham Forest (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The Care Quality Commission rates Waltham Forest Council’s adult social care services as “good,” awarding a score of 64/100 in its latest performance review.

In order to determine the authority’s good rating, CQC examined nine areas spanning four topics to determine how well they are fulfilling their obligations. Each of these nine areas has received a score out of four from CQC, with four indicating an extraordinary standard and one indicating major deficiencies in the evidence.

With the exception of assessing needs, care provision, integration and continuity, safe pathways, systems and transitions, and safeguarding, which scored a two (needs improvement), Waltham Forest received a three in every category.

“Some people had good experiences of assessment, care, and support and were largely satisfied,” according to the CQC. However, some users found the system “complex to navigate or off-putting” and had trouble getting information and guidance.

What are the strengths and areas for improvement in Waltham Forest’s adult social care?

The local government had a “very strong overarching preventative offer for the population based on a strategic intent and investment in early help,” according to the CQC. They emphasized the Early Help service in particular as a tool that reduced the likelihood that individuals would require a care package or additional assistance from the local government for a minimum of six months.

The CQC discovered that the council “didn’t always” successfully apply strengths- grounded approaches across adult social care brigades, which meant that workers were not always concentrating on the person’s precedences.

Likewise, according to CQC, Waltham Forest” didn’t always cover people placed out of the area constantly,” which meant some did not admit timely help when their conditions or circumstances changed.
