UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – British heavyweight boxer Anthony Joshua was injured in a car crash in Nigeria that killed two people, according to local reports.

On a busy highway close to Lagos, the former world champion was a passenger in a car that struck a stationary truck.

The 36-year-old was seen on camera being assisted from the rear seat of a damaged SUV.

According to Nigeria’s Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), five adult men were involved in the collision. Local officials said that both of the deceased were “male foreign nationals.”

They also mentioned that the boxer’s security crew saved Joshua and another man, the driver of the car.

The collision happened on Monday at about 12:00 local time (11:00 GMT) on the congested Lagos-Ibadan motorway.

Two cars were engaged in the incident: a stalled red commercial truck and a black Lexus.

Based on initial findings, the FRSC declared that the Lexus was

“suspected to be travelling beyond the legally prescribed speed limit”.

According to the report, the vehicle looked to have

“lost control during an overtaking manoeuvre”

before colliding with the parked truck at the side of the road.

Images released by the FRSC showed a destroyed vehicle at the scene of the collision, surrounded by a large group of spectators.

One of Nigeria’s deadliest routes is the Lagos-Ibadan expressway, which sees especially heavy traffic during this time of year as many Nigerians who live overseas travel for the holiday season.

Joshua was born in Watford, but his family is from Sagamu, a town close to the crash site in Ogun State, southwest Nigeria.

After defeating American YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul on December 19, he had been in the country for some time.

Paul posted on X after the crash:

“Life is much more important than boxing. I am praying for the lost lives, AJ and anyone impacted by today’s unfortunate accident.”

Joshua uploaded a video of himself and another man playing table tennis to Instagram a few hours before the collision. The precise time and location of the video’s capture are unknown.

An investigation into the accident has been ordered, according to local police commissioner Lanre Ogunlowo.

Joshua’s Nigerian relative, who wished to remain anonymous, described the crash’s news as a “shock” to the family.

They prayed for the crash victims and expressed their hope for a “speedy recovery” for him.

The boxer’s family has been in the town for many generations and is well-known there.

In Ogun, where the boxer serves as a sports ambassador, a new indoor boxing arena bearing Joshua’s name is being planned.

Are authorities investigating any criminal charges in the crash?

Ogun State Police and the Federal Road Safety Corps( FRSC) in Nigeria are conducting a standard disquisition into the December 29, 2025, auto crash involving Anthony Joshua, fastening on implicit business violations like speeding and indecorous catching.

No felonious charges have been formally blazoned against Joshua or others, but examinations examine motorist responsibility amid two losses; Nigerian law allows charges for reckless driving( up to 3 times imprisonment) if negligence is proven, with primary reports citing redundant speed on the Lagos- Ibadan Expressway.

Authorities seized the Lexus SUV for forensic analysis, canvassed substantiations, and are reviewing dashcam/ business footage; Joshua cooperates from sanitarium, with no apprehensions as of December 30, pending coroner’s probe on the departed.
