UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Waitrose has withdrawn Deeside Mineral and Sparkling Water bottles over possible glass contamination, urging customers not to drink and return them for a refund.
As reported by The Telegraph, Waitrose, a British supermarket chain, has urged customers to return Deeside Mineral Water bottles and not drink them over possible glass fragments.
Why has Waitrose recalled Deeside Mineral and Sparkling Water?
Shoppers are being advised by Waitrose not to drink No1 Deeside Mineral Water and Sparkling Water bottles.
The Food Standards Agency (FSA) said customers must wrap up the 750ml products and return them to the store for a full refund.
It said,
“If you have bought any of the above products do not drink it. Instead, return it to the store from where it was bought for a full refund.”
The FSA’s food alert said this is
“because of the possible presence of glass fragments upon opening the bottles.”
It continued,
“The product may contain glass which may cause injury and makes it unsafe to drink. Point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that are selling this product.”
A Waitrose spokesperson said,
“We’re recalling some bottles of our No1 Royal Deeside Mineral Waters as a precaution and are very sorry for the inconvenience. Customers are asked not to use the bottles and to take them back to Waitrose or contact us for a full refund.”
They added,
“We apologise that it has been necessary to recall this product and for the inconvenience caused.”
Bottled specially for Waitrose from a spring near Balmoral Castle, the potentially contaminated mineral water sells for around £1.60 each.
The supermarket has removed the bottles from sale and asked customers who bought them to return the product or contact the retailer for a refund.
Waitrose has identified the recalled still mineral water by batch codes: NOV2027 28, DEC2027 01, DEC2027 02, DEC2027 10, DEC2027 11, and DEC2027 16.
The recalled sparkling mineral water bottles carry batch codes: DEC2027 01, DEC2027 03, DEC2027 12, DEC2027 15, and DEC2027 25.
Earlier this month, the supermarket recalled a Santa-themed drinks bottle for safety reasons, and in October, it removed a plant-based meat item with undeclared wheat gluten.
The presence of glass shards prompted the FSA to recall bottles of Disaronno Originale in early December.
Tesco recalled aubergine katsu bao buns earlier in December after undeclared milk was found, risking harm to customers with dairy allergies.
Ahead of Christmas, Bakewell Bakery recalled its “shallow brandy” mince pies over concerns that milk was not listed on the label.
What are the Waitrose opening times?
Waitrose opening hours differ by location, with many London stores typically operating from 10 am to 6 pm.
On January 1, 2026, most stores in England and Wales remain closed, while Scottish branches open from 10 am to 6 pm.
Customers are advised to use the official Waitrose store finder online or via the app to confirm opening hours for their local branch to return water bottles.
What are the Food Standards Agency guidelines for dairy products?
The FSA gives hygiene rules for producers of raw milk and cream, along with consumer guidance on the risks of these products. It provides guidance to dairy producers on hygiene practices and ensures milk is free from antibiotic contamination.
The agency issues separate guidance for businesses and authorities on safely recovering cheese that may have briefly left controlled storage before being returned to sale.
