WASHINGTON (Parliament Politics Magazine) – More from the United Nations Security Council, where Russia’s ambassador, Vasily Nebenzya, claims that Moscow’s forces have discovered evidence of Ukraine’s attempts to conceal biological weapons research.
Nebenzya said that Ukraine had attempted to disseminate biological weapons by infecting migratory birds and bats, claiming that the coronavirus epidemic had been used as a cover to progress its research.
He further claimed that the US was working on biological weapons that could be used to target specific ethnic groups.
Nebenzya provided no evidence for his accusations, and the US ambassador, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, believes they are an attempt to “create a pretext for invasion.”
Russia is attempting to use the UN Security Council to legitimise disinformation and confuse the public in order to justify Vladimir Putin’s choice of war against the Ukrainian people, she said.
According to Linda Thomas-Greenfield, US Ambassador to the United Nations, Russia may be intending to deploy biological or chemical agents. She goes on to remind the UN Security Council that Russia has a well-documented history of using chemical weapons.
She also thinks Russia may deploy chemical or biological agents “for assassinations as part of a staged or false flag incident, or to support tactical military operations.”
Here is the latest update on the Ukraine warÂ
Ukraine claims imminent possibility of Belarus joining Russia’s invasion
Belarus could join the Russian assault in the next hours, according to Ukraine’s state Centre for Strategic Communications.
After a meeting in Moscow between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Ukrainian officials warned that Belarusian forces could be ordered to breach the border on Friday night.
“Preliminary data indicates that Belarusian troops may be lured into an invasion on March 11 at 21:00 (19:00 GMT),” claimed the centre, which is part of the Ministry of Culture and Information Policy.
Officials claimed that Putin may direct Russian planes to shell targets in Belarus from Ukrainian territory, giving Lukashenko a pretext to launch an attack.
The warning comes following claims that Russian bombers attacked a settlement in southern Belarus on Friday afternoon, which the BBC cannot independently verify.
The strike, according to Ukraine’s Defence Minister Oleksiy Reznikov, was an attempt to “push Belarus’ current government into war against Ukraine.”
Russia claims the UN was misled on Ukrainian biological weapons
Russia’s UN representative has reacted angrily to the UN’s conclusion that there is no evidence of biological weapons development in Ukraine.
Vasily Nebenzya has failed to show any proof of his assertions that Ukraine has developed biological weapons, which Izumi Nakamitsu, the UN’s disarmament chief, stated she could not discover.
“Military development is a covert activity,” he told delegates, “and individuals involved don’t report to Ms Nakamitsu about it.”
“Just because many of you indicated you were unaware of military programmes in Ukraine doesn’t imply they didn’t exist,” he continued.
Russian state media will be subject to YouTube limitations, according to the company.
YouTube has announced that channels affiliated with Russian official media will be blocked immediately
The video streaming giant referenced its policy of removing information that rejects or minimises well-documented occurrences.
It stated that Russia’s invasion of Ukraine comes within this policy, and that access to channels such as RT and Sputnik will be blocked.
“We remove content about Russia’s invasion in Ukraine that breaches our Community Guidelines, which prohibits content denying, minimising, or trivialising well-documented violent events,” stated spokesman Farshad Shadloo.
“As a result, we are blocking YouTube channels affiliated with Russian state-funded media globally, effective immediately.”
Prior to the ban, RT’s main YouTube channel had over 4.5 million subscribers, while Sputnik had roughly 320,000.
