Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – An Addiscombe-based firm is supporting its director’s long-distance charity bike ride in aid of St Raphael’s Hospice, rallying community support in Croydon.

In an effort to earn much-needed money for St Raphael’s Hospice, a committed colleague of a Croydon builders’ merchant is preparing for an amazing charity challenge: cycling more than 200 miles from London to Paris.

Chris Dack, who works as the IT director at Harris & Bailey, is riding a bicycle from London to Brighton on Sunday.

But when Dack gets to the waterfront, he won’t be stopping. After that, he will travel alone to Paris with the goal of riding the Champs-Élysées by Tuesday of next week.

Over the course of the three days, Dack will travel 210 miles across the picturesque scenery of northern France and southern England, arriving at his personal finish line in the French capital.

Since Dack is paying for the challenge entirely on his own, all donations will go directly to the charity that helps those with terminal and life-limiting illnesses.

“Training has been going pretty well, but I’m under no illusion about how tough it’s going to be,”

Dack said.

“Seeing the donations coming in is definitely giving me a boost and I’m really grateful to all of my fantastic colleagues for their support as I take on the challenge.

I’m hoping to reach my fundraising target of £500 and every donation will help make a difference to a charity that does so much to support people and their families facing the toughest of times. If anyone can make a donation, I’d really appreciate it.”

Dack works for Harris and Bailey, one of the biggest independent building and plumbing distributors in the south of England, which was established 120 years ago and is headquartered on Hastings Road in Addiscombe.

The company provides a vast array of products, technical assistance, and knowledge to the construction and plumbing trade.

Neville Horsefield, Harris and Bailey’s managing director, said:

“We’re really impressed that Chris is taking on this epic ride for charity and we’ll be cheering him on as he makes his way to Paris.

Supporting our colleagues is something we’re all passionate about. We’ll be following Chris’ updates whilst he’s out on the road and we’re confident he will reach his fundraising target.”

Established almost 40 years ago at a location on London Road in Worcester Park, St. Raphael’s Hospice offers care to patients with life-limiting or terminal illnesses in the Sutton and Merton regions.

How is Harris and Bailey supporting Chris Dack’s charity ride in Croydon?

In an effort to support St. Raphael’s Hospice in Croydon, Harris and Bailey are sponsoring their IT director, Chris Dack, in his charity bicycle adventure from London to Paris.

The company is supporting him by publicly congratulating him, keeping tabs on his training and development, and soliciting donations to help him meet his fundraising goal of £500.

Although Chris is paying for the trip himself to guarantee that all proceeds go to the hospice, Neville Horsefield, managing director of Harris & Bailey, praised Chris’s dedication and emphasized the company’s love of helping coworkers with philanthropic endeavors.

The firm’s help mostly consists of moral support, raising awareness of the issue, and uniting coworkers and the community in support of Chris’s fundraising campaign.
