Haringey (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Annabella-Vesela will present a live concert performance in Muswell Hill, Haringey this Sunday, featuring her distinctive vocal artistry and stage presence.

This Sunday, the 16th, the Fortismere Community Symphony Orchestra will present a special concert with young mezzo-soprano Annabella-Vesela Petkova Ellis as the soloist.

British-born Bulgarian/Turkish mezzo-soprano Annabella-Vesela is renowned for her expressive talent and charismatic stage presence.

She returned to English National Opera (ENO) in various roles this season, toured Messiah, and made her debut with the London City Philharmonic after winning second place in the Covent Garden Opera Competition.

Recent highlights include her performance in Verdi’s Requiem with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, where she was hailed as “a forceful presence, rendering faultless vocals of purity and power,” and her portrayal of New Ofglen in The Handmaid’s Tale at ENO, which Opera Magazine praised for making a “shimmering impression.”

Annabella-Vesela is very passionate about performing the Elgar piece in Muswell Hill this Sunday and says:

“There is something inherently cyclical about the sea — its disappearance and return, its quiet power — that resonates deeply with this musical cycle.

Each piece reflects a moment in my life, from childhood memories of my sister soothing me to sleep with the rhythm of the waves to finding strength in nostalgia, where melancholy gives way to a higher love. The sea, ever-present, becomes a mirror to life’s uncertainties and joys.

Growing up near the Norfolk coast, I was always aware of both its beauty and its danger […] Just as the sea connects and transforms, so too does music, carrying us through moments of reflection, resilience, and wonder.”

Fortismere Community Symphony Orchestra’s conductor, Thomas Gregory, is excited to welcome Annabella-Vesela to Muswell Hill.

“The Elgar will be the centre-piece of the evening and I know the audience will be blown away by her performance,”

He says.

Wagner and Brahms’ two other potent orchestral pieces will serve as the backdrop for Annabella’s performance.

The show will be held at St Andrew’s Church in Muswell Hill, N10, on Sunday, March 16 at 7 p.m. Adult tickets are £13 online, while student and under-18 tickets are £8 (£16 at the door).

What kind of music will Annabella Vesela perform?

The focal point of Annabella-Vesela Ellis’s concert with the Fortismere Community Symphony Orchestra in Muswell Hill on Sunday will be Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures, sung by the mezzo-soprano.

This song cycle, which draws inspiration from the sea’s emotional depth and cyclical nature, strikes a deep chord with her artistic expression and personal experiences.

Wagner and Brahms orchestral pieces will accompany her performance, making for an impactful and moving evening program.

Because of its emotional resonance and link to themes of nature and human experience, Annabella-Vesela Ellis decided to perform Edward Elgar’s Sea Pictures.

Her artistic concentration on examining deep emotional landscapes is in line with the song cycle, which was inspired by the sea’s immensity and cyclical nature.

Furthermore, the composition is an option for displaying her mezzo-soprano skill due to its challenging vocal range and lyrics.
