Arsenal backed to reinstate Arsene Wenger as manager if Mikel Arteta sacked

Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Frimpong believes Arsene Wenger should return as the club’s manager if Mikel Arteta is sacked. The Gunners have had a poor start to the season under Arteta and currently sit 15th in the Premier League table, just four points off the bottom three.

The club’s hierarchy have publicly insisted they will back Arteta and Frimpong is hopeful that the Spaniard will be a success.

However, if things fail to improve, Frimpong believes Wenger would be the perfect manager to replace Arteta.

He told PlayOJO: “I hope it does work out with Mikel, but I would take Arsene back due to his experience.

“He has the capability of bringing very good players in because he has the respect and he would attract very good players.

“However, I don’t think Arsene has any intention of coming back to Arsenal as a manager.

“We just need to move forward we what we have and that is Mikel and I believe he is good enough for the job.

He added: “When he was at Arsenal, we were always in the top four.

“But I do believe the competition in the league is much stronger now, than when Arsene was the manager.

“But then again, he did a great job on a very small budget and he managed to keep us in the top four and competing for trophies.

“Some fans felt he was there for far too long and we needed a change, but obviously the change hasn’t worked out and most of us wish Arsene was still there.”

Arteta is adamant that he can turn things around but has admitted that the prospect of relegation is a something he is concerned about.

“When you are in this position and you have the points we have at the moment we have to look and be careful,” he said.

“Because we haven’t been a lot of time in this position.

“I think last year when I came in we were in a very similar position and the same talk was around the place.

“It’s normal because we need to start picking up points and then forget about it, start looking up the table much further.

“It’s normal because when you look at the table you start getting conclusions pretty quickly.”
