Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The Croydon BME Forum is calling for volunteers to support its relief efforts as it leads the local response to Jamaica’s humanitarian crisis after Hurricane Meilssa.
One of the biggest storms to ever hit the Caribbean has been proven to have killed 28 people in Jamaica last week, with winds as high as 185 mph.
It was called a “disaster of unprecedented catastrophe” by the Red Cross.
The storm has destroyed a large portion of the island’s infrastructure, leaving residents without power, food, or clean water.
Donations for those impacted were accepted at the Croydon BME Forum office on Saturday.
They have also communicated with the Jamaican High Commission, who have provided advice on the essential things that are urgently needed, in collaboration with the Windrush Generation Legacy Association.
“Over the coming weeks, we will also need volunteers to assist in various roles as we coordinate this vital relief effort,”
the Forum says.
“Together, we can make a real difference.”
