Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A man has been taken to hospital following a fire at a block of flats in South Norwood, Croydon, with firefighters responding to the incident.

Just before three in the morning today (October 22), firefighters put out the Princes Road fire.

The fire damaged a portion of a first-floor apartment with four rooms.

Before the Brigade arrived, ten people had left the building.

13 more persons were attended to safety by firefighters from the alternate story. 

The London Ambulance Service transported one existent to the hospital. 

By 4.46 am, the fire had been put off. 

About 35 firemen from Woodside, Croydon, Norbury, and other near fire stations were dispatched to the area along with five fire machines. 

The cause of the fire is under investigation. 

A spokesperson for the London Fire Brigade said:

“Five fire engines and around 35 firefighters tackled a fire at a block of flats on Prince Road in South Norwood.

Part of a four roomed flat on the first floor was damaged by the fire.

Ten people left the building before the Brigade arrived.

Firefighters led a further 13 people to safety from the second floor.

One man was taken to hospital by London Ambulance Service. 

Control Officers took the first of two calls at 0254 and mobilised crews from Woodside, Croydon, Norbury and surrounding fire stations to the scene.

The fire was extinguished by 0446.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.”

Which fire stations and units responded to the incident?

The South Norwood block of apartments’ fire was attended by five of the fire vehicles and about 35 London Fire Brigade firefighters. Individual fire stations that probably dispatched units include the closest ones covering South Norwood and Upper Norwood areas, although specific station names or unit figures have not been nearly detailed. 

The operation involved firefighting brigades who were suitable to contain the fire and void residents without any injuries. The ambulance services were also engaged in treating a man who was taken to the hospital. 

London Fire Brigade’s approach is to dispatch multiple units from nearby stations to ensure a  comprehensive response to domestic fires, as demonstrated in this incident.
