Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Croydon will commemorate the ninth anniversary of the 2016 tram derailment with a civic ceremony honouring the victims and their families.
Croydon will come together to commemorate those who lost their lives in the Sandilands wagonette derailment at a communal festivity in New Addington on Sunday 9 November 2025.
The service will take place at 1 pm at the keepsake in Market Square, Central Parade, New Addington, celebrating nine times since the terrible incident on 9 November 2016.
Residents are invited to attend and pay their felicitations. Please notice the change from the regular 11 am launch time, since this time’s anniversary falls on Remembrance Sunday.
Led by the Civic Mayor, Councillor Richard Chatterjee, the service will involve a time of quiet and the placing of flowery paeans at the keepsake.
Jason Perry, the administrative mayor of Croydon, original authorities, and first askers from the fire, ambulance, and police departments will join the community.

Nine years on, we continue to honour the memory of the seven residents who died. They remain in our thoughts.”
Which local officials will attend the remembrance event?
On November 11, there will also be a two- nanosecond silence and wreath laying at the war keepsake on Katharine Street.
These officers will share in the communal form at the keepsake on Central Parade in New Addington on Sunday, November 9, 2025. The event will include a nanosecond of silence, prayers, flower laying, and a performance by original academy pupils, recognizing the seven residents who lost their lives in the crash.
The event will be attended by Croydon’s communal Mayor, Councillor Richard Chatterjee, original tagged representatives, and members of the emergency services including police, ambulance, and fire staff. The form will include a nanosecond of silence, prayers, and a performance by pupils from Fairchildes Primary School, with flowers laid at the honorary point.
