As reported by Field Level Media, Dennis Schroder’s late 3-pointer with 2.2 seconds remaining in overtime secured a dramatic 125-124 win for the Sacramento Kings against the Houston Rockets on Sunday, December 21.

How did the Sacramento Kings beat the Houston Rockets 125-124 in OT?

The Sacramento Kings defeated the Houston Rockets 125-124 in overtime on Sunday evening, with Dennis Schroder hitting a game-winning three-pointer with 2.2 seconds remaining.

Schroder added 24 points, 10 assists, and seven rebounds to help the Sacramento Kings rally from a 14-point fourth-quarter deficit, ending their five-game losing streak.

The Kings get 27 points and nine assists from DeMar DeRozan and 26 points from Keegan Murray, marking their seventh win in 29 games this season.

Russell Westbrook contributed 21 points and grabbed 13 rebounds, including a late 3-pointer that tied the game with 14.2 seconds remaining, sending it into overtime.

Alperen Sengun ended with 28 points, while Kevin Durant contributed 24 points, 10 rebounds, and eight assists for the Rockets. Houston fell in overtime for the third time in four games, losing the other two to the Denver Nuggets and the New Orleans Pelicans.

For the Rockets, Amen Thompson finished with 18 points, nine rebounds, and eight assists, while Jabari Smith Jr. also scored 18 points. Tari Eason added 16 points, and reserve Reed Sheppard contributed 15.

With 10.4 seconds left, Smith made two of three free throws to break the tie and give Houston a two-point lead. DeRozan then drove to the basket and passed to a wide-open Schroder, who hit the game-winning shot.

The Rockets ended with a 47.9% shooting rate, including 16 of 38 from long distance, while the Kings made 46.3% of their field-goal attempts and went 12 of 32 from three-point range.

With 9:58 remaining, Smith hit a 3-pointer to give Houston a 100-86 lead, sparking a furious response from Sacramento.

The Kings went on a 12-0 run, with Murray adding seven points and Schroder hitting a three-pointer, narrowing the gap to 100-98 with 8:13 remaining.

Houston held a five-point lead before DeRozan’s dunk with 43.9 seconds left, and Westbrook’s three-pointer tied the game. 

Sengun finished the first half with 18 points, giving the Rockets a 68-57 advantage, while DeRozan scored 15 for the Kings. Houston held a 91-82 advantage going into the fourth quarter.
