Lewisham (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Deptford Yard Market is set to host a free flower show in Lewisham, offering vibrant displays, local stalls, and community activities for all ages.

The main street will be transformed into a colorful floral display on Saturday, July 26, when Deptford Yard Market’s flower exhibit returns for another weekend.

This free event is a part of this year’s Deptford X Fringe festival and runs from 9am to 4pm.

Deptford’s Grade II-listed Carriage Ramp will be used once more for this year’s flower show, when it will be converted into a vibrant walkway of floral artwork and community displays.

From flower installations and a £5 flower tombola to live demonstrations, independent market stalls, and the opportunity to explore some of the area’s secret gardens and hidden green spaces, the event, which is centered around Deptford Market Yard and spans the adjacent streets, will have it all.

London-based authors and creatives from Todolist.london, along with florists Ru and Stu, have dubbed the show the area’s “cheeky answer to Chelsea.” The event will bring together a diverse range of Deptford’s community and Lewisham horticulture.

The £5 flower tombola, which gives guests the chance to win a range of items like fresh flowers, eco-friendly gardening equipment, and rewards with a floral theme, will be one of the day’s highlights.

There will be a variety of floral demonstrations and pop-up floral displays throughout Deptford’s stores and establishments throughout the day.

Beyond only flowers, Deptford Yard Market is renowned for its wide range of regional vendors. It also offers food and beverages from vendors and other establishments, making it a fantastic weekend excursion.

How will the event promote responsible buying and environmental sustainability?

The event will communicate its commitment to sustainability via social media, signage, and direct engagement, helping attendees understand the importance of eco-friendly purchasing and environmental stewardship during and beyond the event.

By featuring independent market stalls with floral-themed products likely sourced locally or made sustainably, the event supports local small businesses and reduces the carbon footprint associated with long supply chains.

The event focuses on reusable or biodegradable materials and encourages the use of reusable containers and packaging (e.g., through flower tombola prizes and vendor policies), aligning with waste reduction goals common to eco-responsible events.
