Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Duxbury was honoured as ‘Customer Champion’ at the Croydon Energy Awards, recognising the company’s outstanding commitment to customer service.

This week, Connie Duxbury, the original CEO of Croydon Community Energy and sometimes a guest on our Croydon Insider podcast, was named Customer Champion at the Young Energy Professionals Forum Awards, which took place at the Bankside Hilton Hotel in London.

Duxbury was the sole candidate from the community energy sector at a lavish gathering attended by over 300 Forum members and prominent figures in the energy business.

Solar panels and other renewable energy initiatives are installed and maintained by Croydon Community Energy on public buildings.

In an effort to cut carbon emissions and lower energy costs for nearby buildings, CCE, which was established in 2021 and is supported by grants and community shareholders, began installing solar panel energy farms on Croydon buildings this year.

Last month, Duxbury brought attention to the fact that Croydon Council has been hoarding nearly £4 million in carbon reduction awards for nearly ten years due to the council’s failure to fulfill its pledges to lessen the effects of the climate catastrophe.

She received Duxbury’s Young Energy Professionals award for “making sure the customer is placed front and center in their work on behalf of the company.”

With her trophy in her hand, Duxbury said:

“I am over the moon to have won this award!

Our customers are our volunteers, our members, the people at our solar sites, the residents we support with free energy advice, our board and our wonderful community.

I set up CCE because of a genuine drive to help Croydon accelerate towards Net Zero and take everyone along with us. I will continue to put our customers first, and want to say a huge thanks to the Young Energy Professionals Network for this huge honour!”

How has Croydon Community Energy reduced local carbon emissions?

Croydon Community Energy has reduced original carbon emigrations by fastening on renewable energy generation and low-carbon technologies within the community. Specifically, it has enforced solar panel installations on community structures, aiming to emplace renewable energy to at least 10 spots by 2030.

Their systems help cut hothouse gas emigrations by furnishing clean energy locally, thereby reducing reliance on fossil energies. They also support energy effectiveness measures similar to furnishing sequestration equipment (gap padding, reflective wastes) to make homes more energy-effective, which reduces energy operation and emigrations.

Also, Croydon Community Energy empowers the original community with energy advice conventions, particularly for those floundering with energy poverty, and promotes energy education and build advice to encourage sustainable energy practices.
