Ealing (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Ealing Mayor Anthony Kelly opens the much-loved annual charity Christmas Card Shop, bringing festive spirit and community support to local shoppers.

Since its founding in 1985, the cherished store has collected about £1 million for indigenous and public charities, and this time marks its 40th anniversary.

Joining volunteers and charity representatives to open the shop at Christ the Saviour Church on New Broadway last week, Councillor Kelly said:

“It’s lovely that community efforts like this continue, supporting so many charities with the help of its fantastic volunteers.”

The shop, which is run entirely by volunteers, was founded by Sue Green. She said:

“We’re delighted to be celebrating our 40-year anniversary. Unlike many other charity card sales, we send 100% of the money taken directly back to the charities.

Thanks to our fantastic helpers who come back every year, we’ve raised close to £1 million since 1985 for around 100 different charities.”

Open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. until Thursday, December 18, 2025, the Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop sells cards from 32 charities in addition to seasonal goods including calendars, wrapping paper, gift tags, and postage stamps.

Action Aid, Age UK Ealing, Alzheimer’s Society, Book Aid International, Bereft, Bridge of Hope, British Heart Foundation, Cancer Research UK, Cardiac Risk in the Young, CAFOD, Combat Stress, Cystic Fibrosis Trust, Diabetes UK, Ealing Samaritans, Ealing Amnesty International, Epilepsy Research UK, Facing the World, Freedom From Torture, Friends of Hammersmith Hospital, Meadow House Hospice, Mind, Motor Neurone Disease Association, Multiple Sclerosis Trust, Parkinson’s UK, RNLI, Save the Children, Soil Association, Stella Maris – Apostleship of the Sea, St Mark’s Hospital Foundation Trust, Society of St Vincent de St Paul, Transform Trade, and Unique are among the local organizations that will benefit from the sale of more than 200 card designs this year.

Are there featured artists or competition winners showcased?

The Ealing Charity Christmas Card Shop traditionally features artwork from competition winners and original artists. The periodic charity Christmas Card Competition showcases named pieces by youthful artists that are frequently featured in the shop’s collections, pressing the creativity and community spirit of the city.

These featured artworks serve both to enhance the gleeful appeal of the shop and to promote original gift by giving artists a public platform. The competition winners and featured artists are celebrated during the Christmas Card Protect opening, occasionally with special exhibitions or displays to fete their benefactions.

This practice helps foster original engagement in the trades, supports community cohesion, and encourages youth participation in charitable and artistic conditioning around the vacation season.
