London (Parliament Politics Magzine) – Nigel Farage claims Donald Trump has been invited to address the UK parliament in 2024.

Reform UK leader Nigel Farage has claimed that Donald Trump has been invited to address the UK Parliament in 2024, calling it a positive move under Speaker Sir Lindsay Hoyle’s leadership.

What did Farage say about Trump’s invitation?

Farage praised the current Speaker of the House of Commons, Sir Lindsay Hoyle, for inviting Trump to speak to both Houses of Parliament next year. He contrasted Hoyle’s approach with that of former Speaker John Bercow, who opposed Trump addressing parliament during his presidency. Farage suggested that the UK should “roll out the red carpet” for the incoming president-elect, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties with Trump’s administration.

How does this invitation differ from Trump’s previous visit to the UK?

During Trump’s first term, Bercow blocked his address to parliament, arguing it should be an earned honour rather than a right. While Trump was invited for a state visit in 2017, Bercow’s strong opposition prevented him from speaking in Parliament. The invitation for 2024, however, is seen as a departure from this stance, with Farage noting the positive shift under Hoyle’s leadership.

What did Farage say about Trump and the UK?

Farage, who has maintained a close relationship with Trump, expressed strong support for the president-elect and praised his political movement. He described Trump as “pro-British” and emphasized that his victory presents a “great opportunity” for the UK. Farage also stated that Trump’s focus on issues such as the cost of living, illegal immigration, and the economy resonated with voters, adding that “woke has died” following Trump’s election success.

Farage’s role in UK-US relations

Farage reiterated his willingness to mediate between the UK government and the incoming Trump administration, despite Labour ministers rejecting the idea. He framed his potential role as serving the national interest while criticizing the current Labour government’s record. Critics, however, questioned Farage’s multiple trips to the US while parliament was sitting, particularly after he criticized Labour activists supporting Kamala Harris in the U.S. elections.

What is Farage’s vision for reform in Wales?

In addition to his comments on Trump, Farage also outlined his ambitions for Reform UK to become the leading opposition party in Wales, challenging Labour’s long-standing dominance in the region. He criticized Labour’s record on issues such as the economy, NHS, and immigration, pledging to focus on these areas ahead of the 2026 Senedd elections.
