What measures are emergency services taking to control the gas leak?

Immediate evacuation is carried out to ensure resident safety and prevent exposure to potentially hazardous gas concentrations.

Emergency responders establish a perimeter around the leak to restrict access and minimize risk of ignition or exposure.

Where safe, doors and windows are opened to disperse gas and reduce concentration in the affected vicinity.

If accessible and safe, responders or utility workers turn off the main gas valve to stop further leakage. All potential ignition sources are eliminated including no use of electrical switches, phones inside the zone, open flames, or sparks.
