London (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A gunman opened fire on a car in Ladbroke Grove, seriously injuring an 8-year-old girl and a man, as police appeal for information to track the suspect.

Metropolitan police report critical injuries to girl, 8, and man in London shooting.

A child and a 34-year-old man were rushed to hospital following a shooting in Southern Row, Ladbroke Grove, on Sunday Evening.

The witness reported a man “shooting directly into a car” at close range, amid screams during the horrifying incident.

Speaking about the incident to a PA news agency, the witness, who was visiting her mother in the area said,  “The guy was shooting directly into a car. I was literally coming out of the exit to my mum’s block of flats and as I was going out, I saw a guy shooting into the car multiple times.”

“He was firing directly, like at close range as if you’re standing to open a door, they were shooting directly into it.”

“I was completely in shock and I just ran back up the stairs because I was really scared. Then I looked and I heard screaming afterwards, and then people coming out to call the police.”

According to the London Ambulance Service, they arrived at the scene within six minutes and treated the victims on-site before rushing them to a major trauma centre.

Forces stated the girl was in stable condition, but officers are still waiting for updates on the man’s health status.

Police reported that a 32-year-old woman, though uninjured, was taken to the hospital as a safety measure.

As reported by The Guardian, a 64-year-old witness told the Metro newspaper how a mother shouted, “My baby, my baby’s been shot,” after gunfire.

An anonymous local woman described her fear after the shooting, saying she initially thought the gunfire was fireworks while cooking in her kitchen, adding that she became scared after learning the truth when police and ambulances arrived.

Police have cordoned off the north-western end of Southern Row, where a local resident said he had witnessed “three shootings” in the area.

Superintendent Owen Renowden, in charge of policing for Kensington and Chelsea, stated in a statement “This is an appalling incident that has left two people seriously injured, including a young girl who thankfully is in a stable condition this morning.”

“I am appealing to the public who may have been in the area at the time of the shooting.”

Police asked witnesses to contact police on 101 with reference CAD 5238/24 NOV or reach Crimestoppers anonymously at 0800 555 111.

Local Labour MP Joe Powell, who represents Kensington and Bayswater, posted on X, “These senseless acts of violence have no place on our streets.”

“I know residents in the local community will be rightly concerned for their safety after several recent incidents in the neighbourhood. We must work together to better prevent these horrific crimes from happening, and hold those responsible to account.”

Mr Joe also urged anyone with information to contact the police to proceed with the investigation process.
