Hackney (Parliament Politics Magazine) – In Homerton, Hackney borough, east London, two men were shot, and one was stabbed in the two separate events that Metropolitan Police suspected to be connected.
At 10:35 p.m. on Saturday, police were contacted in response to allegations of gunfire in two different Homerton events.
A 27-year-old male with a gunshot injury outside Homerton Station received medical care from officers, the London Ambulance Service, London’s Air Ambulance, and medics.
On Gascoyne Road, two further men, ages 28 and 29, were also hurt; one was stabbed, and another was shot.
According to reports, their wounds are not critical.
According to the Met Police, an inquiry team is working quickly to determine the motivation behind the acts and to find potential suspects.
Why do the police think these two events are related?
As a result of the incident, Homerton station was closed for 12 hours until 11 a.m. on January 12.
None arrested so far.
The investigation team is “working at pace” to determine the reason behind the two violent incidents which the Metropolitan Police believe may be “potentially related”.
Given the day and geographic proximity of the two assaults and one stabbing on January 11, 2025, in Hackney, London, the Met Police believe that the events may be linked.
The reports related to the shooting started to come by 10:35 p.m. when the two men were shot outside Homerton Station, and a third man was located nearby with stab wounds.
The fact that these incidents unfolded in quick succession and within a short distance of each other raises suspicions of a potential connection, leading investigators to explore whether they are linked to ongoing gang-related activity or territorial disputes in the area.
Superintendent Brigid Beehag-Fisher, of Hackney and Tower Hamlets Police, said: “This incident shows the casual disregard by some for the safety of our communities.
“Our investigation teams are working hard to understand the circumstances behind this incident and identify those responsible.
“Over the coming days there will be increased police presence in the area.
“I would ask anyone with any information about this offence to speak to any of these officers or call police on 101 with reference 6958/11Jan.”

What role does gang violence play in Hackney’s increasing crime rates?
Violent crime is up across Hackney. That mirrors an increasing trend overall within the whole city of London. The number of violent crimes that Met Police reported during the reported year of 2023-2024 were at 252,545 that have risen even more than other previous years.
In particular, gun crime alone rose from 1,009 in 2022 to 1,208 in 2023. Notably, as organised crime accounts for more than half of all shootings in London, this rise has primarily been associated with gangs.
For instance, a Dalston shooting in December 2023 injured several people, among them a child, bringing into question the threat to innocent bystanders posed by such gang violence.
Additionally concerning is the increase in knife crime, which increased from 9,752 to 15,016 between 2015 and 2023.
According to estimates, gangs are responsible for 50% of knife crimes that cause injuries and up to 60% of shootings. The authorities are still working to address the recurring pattern of violence that gangs in London cause as they look into the recent Hackney events.
