Haringey (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Haringey will host a unified, multi-faith event to launch National Hate Crime Awareness Week, promoting solidarity and safety across the borough.
This session, titled “Faith in Unity: Standing Together Against Hate in HaringeyHaringey,” will be held from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at George Meehan House in Wood Green.

It’s one of several thought-provoking, educational, and motivating events and activities on hate crime awareness that will take occur in Haringey throughout the course of next week to commemorate NHCAW.
Haringey Council’s Cabinet Member for Communities, Cllr Ajda Ovat, said:

Next week is National Hate Crime Awareness Week (NHCAW) and, now more than ever, I would encourage as many of our residents as possible to engage with our programme of activities and events.
We’ll also be supporting NHCAW’s campaign of H.O.P.E – an acronym where each initial stands for a call to action in the hope of creating an even more tolerant and understanding society now and in the future.
Haringey has always been a warm and welcoming borough and – by taking part in some of next week’s activities and events – you’ll be playing your part in making sure it stays that way for many more years and decades to come.”
On Tuesday, October 14, 2025, at 4:30 p.m., our Community Safety team will provide an online training session titled “From Conflict to Connection: Tackling Hate Speech and Polarization in Classrooms” for Haringey teachers and school support personnel.
- Examine how disastrous worldwide conflicts have affected Haringey schools.
- Increase staff self-assurance in helping students during challenging moments.
- Determine the distinction between hate speech and free speech.
- Handle these difficult, contentious, and frequently divisive subjects with professionalism, insight, and sensitivity.
Disability Action Haringey (DAH) will host a “Justice for D/deaf & Disabled victims of hate crime: A focus on Haringey” event on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at 1pm, which will include another online training session for community organizations, professionals, and the general public about NHCAW.
During this one-hour event, the current legislation will be reviewed, and participants will have the chance to join the campaign for good reforms for the D/deaf and disabled population in Haringey and nationally.
Two Follow Your Art by Pauline workshops are scheduled to take place at Wood Green Library on Wednesday, October 15, 2025, from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., and Hornsey Library on Friday, October 17, 2025, from 3 p.m. to 5 p.m.
Everyone is welcome to attend these drop-in craft classes, where they can produce artwork that challenges bigotry and hatred in Haringey.
Who are the featured speakers and faith leaders attending?
The featured speakers and faith leaders at the multi-faith and unified event marking the start of National Hate Crime Awareness Week in Haringey on Monday 13 October 2025, include representatives of a number of religious communities, and well-respected faith leaders from the local area, who are active on community cohesion work, and work against hate crime.
While names of speakers are not yet made public, it is evident that faith leaders from Christian, Muslim, Jewish, Sikh, Hindu, and other faith communities within Haringey are engaging in this event.
This event intends to give faith leaders space to share messages of solidarity, inclusion, and resilience against hate.
