Havering (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Havering Council launches a public consultation on its conservation areas to review protections and ensure heritage sites remain preserved for future generations.
Areas that have been classified as conservation areas do so due to their unique architectural or historic significance.
Each of Havering‘s eleven conservation areas has a Conservation Area Appraisal and Management Plan (CAAMP) in place. By preventing insensitive development and changes, these CAAMPs contribute to the protection of conservation areas.
Adopted in 2008, the CAAMPs for Romford, Rainham, and Gidea Park are somewhat outdated. To update the CAAMPs for these three Conservation Areas, the Council has been collaborating with Purcell, a consulting firm.
The Council is currently looking for feedback on the CAAMPs that have been prepared for Romford, Rainham, and Gidea Park.
“These areas must be protected for generations to come. I welcome that Havering Council are reviewing our local Conservation Areas which I hope will help to protect buildings and land will from developers who don’t take account of our local heritage.“
-Andrew Rosindell MP
In order to review the document and get your opinions and input, the Council will host an event in each Conservation Area. At the beginning of the session, there will be a 20-minute presentation, after which there will be opportunity for questions. The “events” heading contains all of the event’s specifics. Everyone is welcome to come.

The Member of Parliament for Romford, Andrew Rosindell MP, told the Havering Daily:
“Romford, Gidea Park and Havering-atte-Bower have many historical buildings which reflect our town’s character and identity. These areas must be protected for generations to come.
I welcome that the Havering Council are reviewing our local Conservation Areas which I hope will help to protect buildings and land from developers who don’t take account of our local heritage. I would encourage everyone to send in their feedback to Havering Council to ensure our Town and Borough’s history is preserved.”
What are the key highlights about the Havering consultation and conservation efforts?
Adopted in 2008, the current CAAMPs for Romford, Rainham, and Gidea Park are now somewhat outdated. For these three regions, the council has revised CAAMPs in collaboration with Purcell, a consultant.
Residents and interested parties have until June 9, 2025, to evaluate the draft materials and respond to an online poll. In order to explain the ideas and get opinions, the council is also hosting consultation events in each area that include presentations and Q&A sessions.
These designated zones guarantee that alterations maintain or improve the historic and architectural significance of the borough’s buildings, land, and overall character by preventing improper development.
