UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – JK Rowling, Harry Potter’s author, backed Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch as the only UK leader defending women amid rising gender identity protests.

As reported by Sky News, women’s rights activist JK Rowling praises Kemi Badenoch for standing firm for women’s rights.

What did JK Rowling say about Kemi Badenoch’s support for women’s rights?

JL Rowling said,

“I knew what I was getting into when I entered this debate and compared to what others have suffered, I’ve got off lightly.”

She added,

“Even so, it continues to astound me that Kemi Badenoch remains the only UK political leader offering unequivocal solidarity to women defending their rights.”

Ms Rowling, a firm advocate for women’s rights, argues that only those born women can be considered women. She posted a cigar-smoking sunset photo with the caption, “I love it when a plan comes together,” following the Supreme Court ruling that backed her views.

She has publicly expressed her support for Ms. Badenoch after the Tory leader called trans protestors a “mob of trans-activists” and “extremists.”

What did Kemi Badenoch say about the protest and death threats?

Following last week’s court ruling on trans women, protests have continued, with one in Westminster resulting in statue damage. Ms Badenoch posted images of placards from the London protest reading “Kill JK Rowling” and “Bring back witch burning… JK.”

She added,

“A mob of trans-activists waiving death threats at women isn’t protest – it’s criminal incitement. If the law isn’t enforced, we don’t have equality, we have two-tier justice. It’s time for Labour to stop being on the side of these extremists and start defending women.”

Supreme Court ruling about trans women

According to a recent Supreme Court ruling, trans women are not legally recognised as women under the Equality Act.

For Women Scotland launched a legal battle, questioning how “woman” is defined in Scottish law that requires gender balance on public boards.

On 16 April, five judges on the UK Supreme Court declared that the Equality Act defines “woman” and “sex” as biological terms. The ruling raises new concerns over trans women’s access to gender-specific areas.

In an 88-page judgment, Lord Hodge, with Lords Reed and Lloyd-Jones and Ladies Rose and Simler, clarified that although “biological” is not mentioned in the Equality Act, the terms “man” and “woman” align with biological traits.

What did Jane Fae say about the Supreme Court ruling?

Jane Fae, leading TransActual, warned that the ruling would lead to a growing divide between “queer-friendly and queer-hostile spaces,” predicting negative consequences.

She said,

“The entire trans community is devastated. Irrespective of the small print on this ruling, the intent seems clear: to exclude trans people wholesale from participating in UK society.”

Mr Fae added,

“This morning, we are feeling very alone. That, though, is today. We have come through worse before and trans people are not going away. Whatever the non-trans world throws at us, we will be back, each time, stronger than before.”

What did Kemi Badenoch say about the Supreme Court ruling on trans women?

Tory leader Kemi Badenoch responded to the ruling, stating, “The era of Keir Starmer telling us women can have penises has come to an end.”

She added,

“Saying ‘trans women are women’ was never true in fact, and now isn’t true in law either. This is a victory for all of the women who faced personal abuse or lost their jobs for stating the obvious. Women are women and men are men: you cannot change your biological sex.”
