UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – LIV Golf player Mito Pereira has announced his retirement from professional golf at just 30, marking a surprising early exit from the sport.

Pereira made his announcement via Torque GC, his old LIV squad.

“After many years connected to this beautiful sport, priorities naturally evolve. Today, my main desire is to step away from constant travel, return to Chile, and focus on my personal life,”

Pereira said in a statement.

“Golf played a fundamental role in my life. It allowed me to grow both personally and professionally, to meet incredible people, experience different cultures, and set goals—most of which I was fortunate enough to achieve—taking steps I never imagined possible. I now begin a new chapter feeling happy, motivated, and at peace, without urgency about what the future may bring. I simply want you to know that I am well and proud of what I accomplished in this sport.”

During the 2020 – 21 season, Pereira won three of his 13 professional global titles on the Korn Ferry Tour. He became the 12th player in the history of the development circuit to admit the” battleground creation,” which entitles him to an immediate spot on the PGA Tour. He lost the citation order in a seven- way playoff that time after finishing in a tie for third place in the Summer Olympics.

The Chilian’s notorious 2022 PGA Championship finish is what made him most famed. He’d a three- shot lead going into the final round and a one- stroke advantage going into the 72nd hole at Southern Hills.

But Pereira’s drive set up a creek after he made an ill- timed drive off the tee. He missed a playoff by one stroke as his approach soared over the green after a one- shot penalty, failing to get over- and- down and making a double- hobgoblin.

Pereira joined the fledgling Saudi-backed league LIV Golf shortly after playing for the international squad at the 2022 Presidents Cup.

“I spent many years living away from home, in another country, countless weeks in hotels and airports. Now, the time has come to pause,”

Pereira said.

“Chile is my place in the world, and my family is my reason for being. Golf taught me resilience, how to navigate both good and difficult moments, and how to make discipline and goals a way of life. I believe I am well prepared for what lies ahead. Thank you all.”

What were Mito Pereira’s career highlights and major wins?

Pereira indented four top- 25s in his 2022 PGA Tour debut, including T12 at The Players; his zenith was third place at the 2022 PGA Championship at Southern Hills, leading after 54 holes and earning $870,000.
