Liverpool put three players up for sale to fund Timo Werner summer transfer

Liverpool could reportedly sell three players this summer in a bid to boost finances amid the coronavirus pandemic. Jurgen Klopp is keen to add Timo Werner to his ranks but the RB Leipzig striker will cost £52million.

The Athletic claim a senior source at Anfield has revealed that no major signings will be made this summer if the current financial crisis continues.

With revenue streams being hit hard over the past two months, Liverpool will not have funds to invest in the squad.

However, it may be possible if Klopp gets his way and three players are given a new home.

Firstly, the Athletic claims Liverpool are hoping to land £30m for Xherdan Shaqiri, who has been on the fringes of the first team.

The former Stoke ace had loan enquiries from Spanish side Sevilla and Italian outfit Roma turned down in January.

It is also claimed the Reds are hoping offers arrive for current on-loan duo Harry Wilson and Marko Grujic.

Wilson has impressed during his time at Bournemouth this season but his future on Merseyside is in doubt.

Grujic has spent this year with Hertha Berlin and Liverpool were hoping to receive £40m for the pair.

Given the financial impact of the coronavirus their valuation may not be met.

But if all three stars are moved on then there could be some room in the budget to make a move for Werner.

The Germany international has scored 21 goals in 25 Bundesliga appearances this season.

And he has flirted with the prospect of linking up with Klopp at Liverpool by hailing them as the best team in the world.

I know Liverpool is the best team in the moment in the world,” Werner said.

“When youre linked with that team it makes me very proud.

“But in case of that, its a pleasure but I know at Liverpool there are a lot of good players and I know I have to improve myself to learn much more things to get on this level to play there.”
