UK (Parliament Politics Magazine) – The Former British Prime Minister Liz Truss argued that the UK cannot succeed unless the British media, such as the BBC and The Times, are reformed, accusing them of not covering major issues.
Liz Truss is known for her strong advocacy of free speech and has claimed that the UK’s future is at risk unless major changes are made to the media.
Describing herself as a “big supporter” of Elon Musk, Ms. Truss stated that the UK media is ignoring essential problems that must be addressed for the country’s betterment.
Truss deflects questions on media reform
Speaking to Voice of America, Truss did not provide details on how she would reform the media. She also did not provide further clarification on her previous lobbying for a landmine equipment deal with China while criticising Beijing.
Truss said,
“We have got a massive problem with the British media, which is they don’t focus on the important issues, whether it’s the grooming gangs that they have failed to hold bureaucrats and police officers to account on whether it’s the debt crisis that we now have in our country with the highest levels of gild borrowing (sic) or the highest rates of borrowing since the 1990s; they’re not focused on that.”
She added that instead of focusing on national matters, the media is obsessed with senseless stories about MPs. The nation can’t move forward until this is resolved.
What did Truss say about the Labour Party?
During her interview with VOA’s Lyndon Lee, she stated that China and Islamism controlled the Labour Party. She also praised Elon Musk for his efforts on his social media platforms to reveal historical truths about Britain’s child abuse cases, highlighting that these were stories the BBC and other mainstream outlets had neglected.
According to Truss, the British media, including the BBC and major newspapers like The Times and Financial Times, has failed to report on critical national matters. She praised the Tesla owner for exposing these shortcomings.
Ms. Truss expressed support for Elon Musk for bringing attention to the grooming gang scandal, in which she alleged Pakistani individuals were responsible for targeting young girls. She also highlighted Musk’s critique of Keir Starmer and his promotion of free speech, stressing its significance for a free society, like in China.

Truss sent legal notice to Keir Starmer over the economy claim
Former Prime Minister Liz Truss has taken legal action, demanding the British prime minister Sir Keir Starmer avoid claiming she “crashed the economy.”
Ms Truss’s lawyers argue that Sir Starmer’s ongoing statement is “false and damaging” and claim it negatively affected her political position and contributed to her loss in the election.
The letter argues that market changes during Truss’s tenure shouldn’t be called an economic crash.
She was the shortest-serving prime minister of the UK, with only 49 days in Number 10.
In response, the prime minister’s official spokesperson said Truss should also apologise to “millions of people” affected by higher mortgage bills due to her economic strategies.
Former prime minister Truss, who has previously called for a collaboration between the Tory party and Nigel Farage’s Reform UK, stated that British politics requires a “new and fresh” direction.
The Labour Party has been contacted for comment on Truss’s claims.
