Croydon (Parliament Politics Magazine) – A new podcast studio, launched with Croydon Council, aims to equip young people with creative and technical skills, fostering media talent in the borough.
All Heads Recognised (AHR), which offers educational support for youth, is running a program to teach youth how to produce community podcasts.
Students will be able to address issues that are important to them and their community at the South Norwood studio, which will serve as a forum for youthful voices.
In the future, AHR intends to offer studio rental services, which will aid in the revenue generation of their Community Interest Company (CIC).
Through its £2.4 million South Norwood Regeneration Programme, Croydon Council is funding the project with the goal of revitalizing South Norwood High Street.
It is supported by Historic England’s High Street Heritage Action Zone and the Mayor of London’s Good Growth Fund.
In order to launch the podcast program, the Council has been collaborating with AHR to provide project and business planning, as well as assistance with communications planning for upcoming podcasts.
To assist the project succeed, the Council also linked AHR with business support through the UK Shared Prosperity Fund (UKSPF) business support programs and the Council’s Creative Clinic.
Twenty youth have participated in the program since December and have had the chance to receive instruction from a media training professional. AHR intends to extend its podcast training program to the South Norwood community network and beyond.
Executive Mayor Jason Perry attended the launch and praised the podcast studio’s achievement, allowing guests to witness the students’ growth as podcasters through a podcast interview.
Mayor Perry has expressed excitement for the project’s potential to empower youth, and the studio’s launch has been favorably received. The project demonstrates a larger dedication to fostering Croydon’s young development.
The new podcast studio is a major investment in the youth of Croydon, providing them with a creative outlet and useful skills that will help them in their future professional and personal growth.
Terry Lewis, AHR director, added:
“At AHR we strive to empower communities, and nurture young talent through innovation and training. We got positive feedback from the young people.”
Jason Perry, Executive Mayor of Croydon said:
“Our young people are learning valuable media, communication and technical skills, whilst discussing important topics that influence them and their community.
We want to support the thriving creative industries in our borough and to make sure everyone has access to opportunities to gain skills that will support them in their careers. I really enjoyed meeting the young people and partners at the launch, as well as speaking in the podcast.”
What are the key highlights about the podcast studio?
The Good Growth Fund of the Mayor of London provided funding for the podcast studio, which is a component of Croydon’s South Norwood Regeneration Programme. This donation demonstrates the dedication to expanding local youth opportunities.
The studio wants to give young people media production skills so they may make content that represents their viewpoints and experiences. Youth in the area may benefit from this program by developing their creativity, self-assurance, and sense of community.
Young people will get podcasting training so they may create their own shows and talk about issues that are important to their community. This practical experience may pave the way for future media and communication jobs.
By giving young people a forum to express their voices and stories, the podcast studio fosters inclusivity and a sense of community. By involving locals, it supports larger initiatives to rebuild borough pride.
