Southwark (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Residents have moved into a new Southwark Council housing block of 13 flats on Sedgemoor Place in Camberwell, boosting affordable home options.
There are a variety of one, two, and three-bedroom apartments with balconies in the low-rise brick building.
There are additional bin stores and bike storage in the block.
Of the 13 apartments, half have been reserved for local residents.
Cllr Helen Dennis, Southwark Council’s Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, said:
“I’m thrilled to celebrate the completion of more much-needed council homes for local people. These are among the 3,000 council homes we’ve built or have under construction on site in Southwark.
Like all our new council homes, these flats are of the highest quality, spacious and light, with plenty of homes available for families.
With 50% of the new homes here being allocated to local people in the immediate area, we are pleased that these homes are directly supporting the local community and ensuring people can stay near their friends and family when they move to a new home”.
What are the key highlights of the project?
The site features low-rise, brick, one, two, and three-bedroom flats, each with balconies, in addition to bin stores and spaces for bicycle parking.
Councillor Helen Dennis, Southwark Council’s Cabinet Member for New Homes and Sustainable Development, noted this as part of Southwark’s plans for over 3,000 council homes either recently built or under construction.
The new homes are said to be good quality, spacious, and light, with several units suitable for families. The development reflects the council’s genuine commitment to increasing the amount of affordable council-rented homes to help address the local housing crisis.
