Hammersmith & Fulham (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Octopus Energy founder Greg Jackson has joined the Hammersmith & Fulham Growth Advisory Board to help shape local economic development and innovation strategy.

This organization brings together local government, business, and the academia to develop strategies for achieving the crucial growth in the Hammersmith & Fulham.

Sophie Devonshire, CEO of the Marketing Society, is chairing the Upstream London Strategic Advisory Board’s first meeting today.

The board brings together local government, business, and academics to develop plans for growth in a borough that is home to a large Imperial College campus as well as the corporations including Novartis, Autolus, and L’Oréal.

It will advise the Labour-run council on “how to attract the investment, incubate talent, and ensure the growth that generates benefits for all residents of the borough” at its quarterly meetings.

As part of the second phase of Upstream London, an industrial plan that was introduced in 2017 with “the aim of transforming the Borough into an inclusive, global, economic hotspot,” the board was assembled by council leader Stephen Cowan.

As reported by The Standard, professor Maggie Dallman, an immunology professor, and John Anderson, the chief investment officer at Imperial College, are among the other board members.

Greg Jackson said:

“I love living and bringing up my family in Hammersmith & Fulham where I’m proud to have built great businesses. As an early sherpa for the borough’s industrial strategy, I’m delighted to be joining the board of Upstream London.

This pioneering project showcases a borough that is serious about innovation, creativity and inclusive economic growth, and I look forward to playing my part in growing its footprint locally and nationally.”

According to the Jackson’s past performance, he will concentrate on combining innovation, sustainability, and investment-friendly policies to promote inclusive, long-term growth in the borough.

Greg Jackson is expected to use his knowledge of renewable energy innovation, pro-growth policy advice, and community-focused leadership to assist in creating plans that support Hammersmith and Fulham’s corporate expansion and sustainable economic development.

Stephen Cowan said:

“I’m really grateful to all the talented leaders from business, academia and local government that have agreed to serve on the Upstream London Strategic Advisory Board.

It is another demonstration of the crucial role local authorities can play in leading economic growth and shared prosperity for residents through a culture of entrepreneurial municipal government.”

What specific strategies will Greg Jackson bring to the advisory board?

Jackson is well-positioned to promote ecologically sustainable economic development in the borough, in line with the larger UK and London climate targets, thanks to his experience in renewable energy and dedication to net zero goals.

Jackson is able to offer guidance on utilizing innovation and digital transformation to assist local firms and draw in investment, given Octopus Energy’s success with technology-driven business models.

Jackson has experience forming policies that foster a pro-business environment, lower regulatory barriers, and encourage investment in high-potential industries and clusters as a member of the UK Government’s Industrial Strategy Advisory Council. These insights can help Hammersmith and Fulham draw in and keep businesses.

His leadership style places a great emphasis on the creating vibrant communities and corporate cultures, both of which may be translated into growth plans that benefit a variety of local people.
