Which applications affect South Norwood or Regina Road?
The principal planning applications influencing South Norwood, particularly Regina Road, relate predominantly to the major regeneration of the Regina Road estate. Croydon Council has approved plans for the demolition of the infamous flats on Regina Road, which had problems with poor living conditions and lack of maintenance for some time.
The proposal will see the existing towers demolished, and three blocks of 191 council flats will be built instead, with a proposal to develop up to a total of 450 homes on the site and at least 200 council owned homes in total.
This regeneration work is proposed to take place in stages: the first to replace the towers and surrounding homes with council housing, and the second phase to add a nursery and local community space alongside more homes.
