Platinum Jubilee: The Queen expresses gratitude to the nation

LONDON (Parliament Politics Magazine) – As the Platinum Jubilee celebrations get underway, the Queen says how the nation’s goodwill inspires her.

She thanked and praised the people for organising festivities and promised “many happy memories” in a Jubilee address.

Over the weekend of a four-day bank holiday, millions of people are planning street events to commemorate the monarch’s 70 years on the throne.

A new official picture of the Queen was also issued, taken at Windsor Castle.

There will be a series of formal activities, beginning on Thursday with the Trooping the Colour procession and concluding on Sunday with a Jubilee Pageant through London, in addition to community celebrations across the country.

“I continue to be inspired by the goodwill shown to me, and hope that the coming days will provide an opportunity to reflect on all that has been achieved during the last 70 years, as we look to the future with confidence and enthusiasm,” the Queen said.

Ranald Mackechnie clicked the picture shared with her message in the Victoria Vestibule at Windsor Castle earlier this year.

It depicts the Queen, who appears content, sitting on a cushioned window seat at the castle, which has served as her primary residence for the past few years. Through the window, you can see the iconic Round Tower.

Mr Mackechnie previously photographed the Queen with the Duke of Cambridge, the Prince of Wales, and Prince George to mark the 90th birthday of the queen in the year 2016.

The traditional Trooping the Colour procession, which commemorates the Queen’s official birthday, features around 1,500 officers and troops from the Household Division, along with 350 horses and an RAF flypast.

The 96-year-old queen, who suffers from mobility concerns and has recently cancelled many public appearances, is expected to watch the spectacle from the Royal Family’s balcony at Buckingham Palace.

The parade is being watched by the Duke and Duchess of Sussex though they will not be seen on the balcony.

The pair, who reside in the United States, have a prime view of Horse Guards Parade from the Duke of Wellington’s former office, where they can observe Prince Charles review the guardsmen and officers and salute in place of his mother.

Archie, three years old, and Lilibet, who turns one on Saturday, accompanied them on their journey. The family nickname of the Queen is Lilibet.

Prince Andrew, the Queen’s son, is not in attendance, despite the fact that his royal titles were returned to the Crown following a legal battle in the United States.
