Sweden (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Sweden officially joins NATO, marking a historic moment as its flag is raised in Brussels. Meanwhile, Pope Francis faces backlash over comments on negotiating with Russia, and India critiques Moscow over citizens duped into joining the Russian army.

NATO officially welcomed Sweden as its 32nd member with a historic ceremony in Brussels, where the Swedish flag was raised at the alliance’s headquarters for the first time. “Today as we raise the Swedish flag, we stand together in unity and solidarity, committed to protect and defend each other. All for one, and one for all,” NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg said during the event.

Meanwhile, Pope Francis is facing criticism from Ukrainian and European leaders after he suggested in an interview that the “strongest” party in the war is the one willing to raise a “white flag” and negotiate with Russia. His comments have sparked backlash for appearing to advocate for peace talks amidst ongoing conflict.

In another development, India has called for the release of its citizens who were “duped” into serving in the Russian army. This marks a rare instance of public criticism of Moscow by Indian officials.
