Bexley (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Bexleyheath’s Tipsy Bakery is making headlines with its alcohol-infused cupcakes, pipette toppings and cocktail-flavoured sweet treats drawing attention.
As reported by This is Local London, since its establishment in 2022, the Tipsy Bakery has amassed a devoted customer base by fusing classic baking with a lighthearted twist.
Offering anything from chocolate bars and cookies produced on-site to cupcakes infused with alcohol, the business has gained a reputation for doing things differently since opening its doors in March 2022.
Emma Rus, 35, a native of Bexleyheath who attended grammar school nearby and grew up on Long Lane, is the company’s manager.
She managed Lidl stores for ten years, including the one in the heart of Bexleyheath, before opening the bakery.
Emma told:
“I was just making sort of cakes and cupcakes for family and friends as a way to relax. I used to be a store manager for Lidl for like the last ten years, so I was doing it on the side and I just really enjoyed it.
Everything we’ve done is self-taught. Learning how to do the cakes and cupcakes, even the admin side, the legal side – everything has been learned as we go.
I’m really proud of what we’ve done and the direction that we’re going. We’re a small family business. We keep it small and do it well.”
Although she was still working a full-time job, she started dealing at farmers markets, and the business soon expanded.
After outgrowing her home kitchen, Emma built her first store two years after incorporating the business in 2020.
With the alcohol presented in a tiny pipette, the bakery’s trademark cupcakes come in flavors inspired by cocktails, like espresso martini and pornstar martini.
Tequila rose is their most well-liked flavor.
The distinctive alcohol-infused cupcakes from Bexleyheath’s Tipsy Bakery, which are modeled after well-known cocktails and tipples, are a popular adult sweet treat.
They are a unique option for birthdays, weddings, presents, and special occasions because of their assortment of cupcakes, brownies, blondies, cookies, the old-fashioned baked goods, celebration cakes, and chocolate-dipped drunken strawberries.
She explained:
“At the time, nobody else was doing this concept of the pipette in the cake.
We were making cocktail-type cakes, just whatever we could think of.”
The cocktail cakes are still a key component of the bakery’s identity, even if the alcohol is optional (children can remove the pipettes) and the firm has since grown to include many other delicious delicacies.
Although less frequent than standard buttercream, the team’s Swiss meringue buttercream has proven to be a hit with patrons.
Large cookies, celebration cakes, chocolate-dipped strawberries, and homemade chocolate bars have all been added to the menu as the firm has evolved.
The Dubai chocolate, which is produced in-house and shipped anywhere in the UK, is among the most well-liked new products.
Emma added:
“We make that in house from scratch. We’ve never had a complaint. People love ours. They come back time and time again.”
Emma said the business has grown mainly through word of mouth and repeat custom, rather than advertising.
She said:
“We make birthday cakes for the same child year on year which is so lovely.
We’ve got loads of regulars. I’d say we’re mostly word of mouth and recommendation. We don’t pay for advertising or anything like that.”
She claims that the bakery has been able to establish itself due to the assistance of the neighborhood and other high street establishments.
