Wandsworth (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Wandsworth Council invests £355,000 in Putney Leisure Centre pool, improving air quality and swimmer experience with state-of-the-art air handling system.

The project will lower the center’s carbon footprint and greatly enhance temperature management and air quality.

The main pool and health suite will be temporarily closed from Monday, March 3rd, until Tuesday, April 1st, in order to finish the improvements.

The gym and fitness classes, as well as all other leisure center amenities, will continue to operate normally.

Judi Gasser, Cabinet Member for Environment, said:

“We are investing in Putney Leisure Centre to ensure that people in Wandsworth can continue to enjoy the best possible facilities.

These essential upgrades will make a real difference to everyone who swims here and are just one of the ways we’re encouraging everyone to come out and get moving.

We’re committed to keeping our leisure centres in great shape for our community, as part of our Wandsworth Moves Together plan.”

The Putney Leisure Centre will receive a £355,000 investment as part of this project, which will also replace the center’s lighting with LEDs.

The entire project will contribute to lowering our overall carbon footprint and increasing the center’s carbon efficiency. Sports England and Wandsworth Council have partnered to fund this upgrading project, which is a component of Wandsworth’s ambition to become a Carbon Neutral Council by 2030.

As a listening council, they are keeping expenses down while providing genuine enhancements to neighborhood services that you love.

They have frozen the primary part of your council tax for the third year running, ensuring that critical investments like these may continue whilst we keep the lowest council tax in the country.

The pool hall’s air handling system renovation is the primary goal of the present upgrades. This will greatly improve temperature regulation and air quality, making swimming more comfortable.

During the shutdown, swimming lessons will not be offered at Putney Leisure Centre. All sessions will resume as usual on Tuesday, April 1.

It is advised that members and non-members who want to swim during this time visit the local recreation centers:

  • Tooting Leisure Centre
  • Latchmere Leisure Centre
  • Balham Leisure Centre
  • Malden Centre (Kingston-upon-Thames)

Leisure centre members are entitled to free use of these pools as part of their membership, however non-members must pay as usual each session.

According to Wandsworth Council, people can visit the Putney Leisure Centre’s FAQ website or talk to a staff member for further information about the closure and other swimming choices.

What will be the potential improvements in Putney pool upgrade?

Energy economy can be greatly increased by installing variable-speed drives (VSDs) and advanced control systems, which enable fans to run at different speeds according to demand.

By using waste heat to warm or cool the air, heat recovery systems can be included to help lower energy use.

By effectively eliminating contaminants, upgrading to sophisticated filtration systems—like HEPA filters—can enhance indoor air quality.

Efficiency can be further increased by implementing automation and smart controls that optimize the air handling system’s operation based on occupancy and real-time conditions.

Predictive maintenance using sophisticated algorithms can reduce downtime and increase overall system reliability by warning facility managers of possible problems before they become more serious.

To improve family amenities, a new play area will be constructed at the leisure facility.

To improve accessibility and user experience, the accessible restroom and changing area will be improved.
