Beijing (Parliament Politics Magazine) – Chinese President Xi Jinping declared Beijing’s “unstoppable” rise at its largest military parade, attended by world leaders. 

As reported by The Telegraph, at China’s largest military parade, Xi Jinping praised the country’s “unstoppable” rise, with Russian President Vladimir Putin, North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, and Pakistan’s PM Shahbaz Sharif attending.

Xi Jinping showcase China’s power at the historic parade

The parade celebrated the 80th anniversary of Japan’s defeat in World War II. Leaders from 26 countries attended, including Mr Vladimir Putin and Mr Kim Jong-un, seated beside Xi Jinping.

It marked the inaugural meeting of the three leaders, who exchanged words before and during the ceremony.

Following the Shanghai Cooperation Summit, Mr. Xi Jinping met with Mr. Vladimir Putin and Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, described as the “axis of upheaval,” to outline his vision for a new global order.

To showcase its latest military technology, Beijing closed streets for a display of previously unseen hardware.

Being displayed advanced military hardware, including ICBMs with global strike capability, stealth aircraft, tanks, and a new laser weapon system.

The Tiananmen parade opened with grand performances of nationalist and communist songs by 1,000 members of the People’s Liberation Army band.

Xi Jinping’s views on China’s military strength and sovereignty

In a 10-minute address, Xi Jinping declared that China would “never be intimidated by any bullies” and called for the rapid development of a “world-class military”

He stated,

“The great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation is unstoppable. The noble cause of peace and development for mankind will surely triumph.”

Mr Xi addressed a crowd of over 50,000 viewers that

“Today, mankind is faced with the choice of peace or war, dialogue or confrontation, win-win or zero-sum,

Adding that the Chinese people

“firmly stand on the right side of history.”

He concluded his remarks by vowing that China’s military would

“firmly safeguard the nation’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity.”

The Chinese president said nations must “treat each other as equals” to “co-exist in peace” and “eradicate the root cause” of conflict.

He added,

“History cautions us that humanity rises and falls together. The Chinese nation is a great nation that is never intimidated by any bullies.”

After his speech, Mr Xinping entered an open-top limousine with microphones, greeting more than 10,000 troops participating in the parade.

What did Donald Trump say about China’s military parade?

US President Donald Trump took to Truth Social to react to China’s display of military power.

He said,

“The big question to be  answered is whether or not President Xi of China will mention the massive amount of  support and ‘blood’ that The United States of America gave to China in order to help it to secure its FREEDOM from a very unfriendly foreign invader.”

Mr Trump stated,

“Many Americans died in China’s quest for Victory and Glory. I hope that they are rightfully Honoured and Remembered for their Bravery and Sacrifice!”

He extended his wishes to Xi Jinping and the people of China for a “great and lasting day of celebration.”

Mr Trump added,

“Please give my warmest regards to Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un, as you conspire against The United States of America.”

What did Chinese state media say about the military parade?

According to Chinese state media, the soldiers represented the nation striving toward a better future.

They said,

“China today is a great country with majestic mountains and rivers, and its people are full of pride and ambition.”

One state TV commentator said, “This great nation never bows to any enemy,” adding that enemies would encounter “bloodshed.”

Advanced weapons and systems at China’s parade

The parade’s foot procession showcased China’s military branches, including the army, navy, air force, and rocket force, which oversees nuclear and strategic weapons. 

For the first time, the aerospace and cyberspace forces also participated, signalling the military’s move into new domains.

Following the march, China showcased a lineup of tanks and armoured vehicles, featuring the new Type 99B battle tank and the PHL-16 rocket system, described as its version of HIMARS.

The HQ-20 air defence system made its first appearance, designed to strike aircraft, missiles and drones. China also showcased the CJ-1000 hypersonic missile and the DF-26D, capable of carrying nuclear or conventional warheads.

The DF-5C missile was also unveiled, reportedly capable of carrying 10 independently targetable nuclear warheads.

The JL-3, a submarine-launched missile, is believed capable of reaching Alaska and Hawaii from China.The parade concluded with unmanned vehicles and a massive flyover of more than 100 aircraft, including fighter jets and reconnaissance planes. It ended with the release of 80,000 doves.
